Alexander, Thanks for your comments. In one sense everyone on staff is involved in working with qualified students interested in the careers you teach for. These students need assistance to be sure they stay in school, which becomes everyone's job. Educators, student services staff, and others need to keep the students' eyes on the outcome - getting a job. Admissions is a cycle from enrollment to graduation. After graduation it is important to have an Alumni Community to keep in touch with grads, ask them for referrals, and possibly to enroll them in the next level program at your institution.… >>>

Hiram, Yes, job descriptions have to be clear and measurable. Employees want to know what they can and cannot do and how they will be evaluated. When there is a general "non" job description it is important to go to the employer for clarification. Sometimes it takes a bit of coaching and even providing a job description for the employer to ok or add to or change. Whatever it takes to get a complete job description is important. Lazara, Interesting point. We find that an interesting exercise for Team meetings is to ask everyone on staff to draw an organization chart and show where they fit in. It is quite amazing how many different org charts the employees of one school can create. Many are consistently unaware of who they report to. Often two people will work on one task and very often things simply don't get done. It is all because people just don't know what their job is and don't ask. Try the exercise. It is very eye opening. Thanks, Susan Dr. Susan Schulz
Lazara, That's a really good point. Whenever there are challenges there is probably technology to overcome them. It will take a great IT expert on staff. That person should probably know about social media and other current technology and methods of communication. It does take patience and persistence and a can-do approach. Thanks, Susan Dr. Susan Schulz

Lazara, It sounds like you have a great plan to first determine what is working at your school and then see what is not working. From that you can create a plan and involve everyone on staff. We find that when there are challenges or when we want creative innovative thinking we ask the constituency. This includes students, staff, alumni, employers, and more. Typically they are aware of the challenges and also solutions. All that has to be done is ask them! Once a plan is in place then everyone on your Team can get involved. Good luck, Susan Dr.… >>>

Deirdre, We also agree. Every employee needs to know, in writing, what they are supposed to do and how they are measured and who they report to. It is an interesting exercise when you ask everyone on staff to draw an organization chart and where they fit it. It is kind of scary to discover that few org charts come out the same in one school. Often two or more people are doing the same tasks and some jobs aren't getting any attention. Try it! Thanks, Susan Dr. Susan Schulz
Sandra, All good points, Sandra. Using internet marketing is an art and can reduce costs. It can also target the ideal prospective student who will benefit from your training. It takes some expertise and sharing about what works and what doesn't. Usually keeping things clear and simple works too. Thanks Dr. Susan Schulz
Sandra, We also agree. Testimonials can say it all. We know a school that creates posters of its Alumni. The posters are formatted with a photo of the student at school and then another at work. There is some copy where the student talks about the life changing experiences at the school. These are throughout the halls and in the admissions offices. Prospective students are sold on the benefits of the school before they have their interview! Thanks, Susan Dr. Susan Schulz
Alicia, Your marketing sounds great. Are you doing a lot of pre and post publicity like sending announcements to print and other media and letting your community know about the event after? There are lots of photo opps from a great event. It sounds like you are creative and can generate a lot of interest. Fashion, entertainment, and lifestyle have a lot of draw - especially in light of all the bad news around! Thanks, Susan Dr. Susan Schulz

Sandra, Good points. The brand has to be clear as well as your target market. The goal is to determine who your ideal students are for each program. It is also good to research what students would be successful for each program that you are not reaching. Flyers are great if you place them in the right places. Events are good if you invite the ideal prospective students. Both strategies are fairly low cost. Social media is good again if your ideal students use that media. We think that marketing can be effective when targeted and doesn't have to cost… >>>
