Maryolaine, It is amazing when everyone works as a Team. Working as a Team results in lots of innovative ideas. Working together on the same Plan gets things done and is enjoyable. People are typically ready to work on goals and plans if they have been a part of the planning. We think that when there are issues and challenges the place to look for solutions is with the school employees. They usually have the answers as they see things from the inside where the problems are. All they have to do is be asked! Thanks, Susan Dr. Susan Schulz
Fernando, Great idea. We actually think that career services starts at the time of admissions. Students should be focused on the reason they are enrolling and assuming debt - it's to get a job. Admissions people need verifiable statistics to present. Or better yet, suggest that the admissions department include you in the interview process. Thanks Dr. Susan Schulz
Linnet, Yes, it is very important to stay in touch with graduates who are working and those who are not. Non working grads need to be employed. How can your department assist? This is a reason why Alumni Communities are so important. You can learn about Alumni Communities through a MaxKnowledge course. Thanks, Susan Dr. Susan Schulz
Linnet, Great idea for instructors and also career services representatives to reach out to the companies where your grads work. Find out if your grads work ready? Is anything missing from your curriculum that is needed on the job? What new training will be needed in the future? How can your school be the training arm for each company? You can be ahead of the competition. Thanks, Susan Dr. Susan Schulz
Linnet, We totally agree. Placement services and process should actually start at the time of enrollment. From the start students need to be focused on the job they are training for and the services provided by the school to reach their goals. Within each class instructors need to talk about how training is used on the job. Thanks, Susan Dr. Susan Schulz
Linnet, Good point. It is true that a great Career Services Department impacts enrollment, retention, and placement as well as school brand. The Career Services Department collects data about placement success, where grads work, salary, and more. With verifiable data admissions will be very informed as they discuss job opportunities with prospective students. Referrals are great too. Thanks, Susan Dr. Susan Schulz

suzet, These are very good points. The reality is that a great Career Services Department impacts on enrollment, retention, placement, and brand within the community. Students are more likely to enroll when they know that your graduates get jobs and a lot of assistance from Career Services. Students are likely to stay in school and graduate because they are confident they will learn the skills needed on the job and that employers trust your school as a training institution. When you stay in touch with employers you know about the job openings first and the kind of trained employees they… >>>

Marion, Great that your instructors integrate classroom learning into how skills are used on the job. It's a great way to keep the students' eyes on the goal of getting a job. Sounds like you count on your Alumni Community for a lot of assistance. There is nothing more credible than a satisfied and successful graduate. What a great idea to have instructors conduct mock interviews. Students are already comfortable with their instructors. Thanks for sharing. Susan Dr. Susan Schulz

Marion, We agree that employers (and potential employers) are great resources to find out just how effective your training programs are. Do employers have to train your grads after they are hired? Wouldn't it be more effective if those skills are taught at your school? Employers can also give you a clue as to what new jobs they will be hiring for and the new training needed. We also believe employers need to be on advisory boards and get involved in the school in many ways. They are a great partner. When you think about it both the student and the… >>>

Marion, Yes, we find that the most effective career services start on day 1 - actually during the admissions process. No matter how much time is spent talking about the job the program trains for, many students don't really know what it is like in the world of work. I met a massage therapy student who was shocked that clothes had to be removed for treatment. That's an extreme but an example of why the realities of the job have to be conveyed in many ways and constantly. It is the respsonsibility of everyone on staff to help the student… >>>
