Anthony, Instructors at my school are encouraged to create their own lesson plans as well. Exemplary lesson plans are shared with other instructors, in order to establish a system of "best practices". Tremayne Simpson
Tim, Although you do not have control over the creation of lesson plans, are you given opportunities to provide feedback and suggestions for revisions? Standardized lesson plans work best, when they are created with the input of the instructors that are credentialed to teach the course in question. Tremayne Simpson
James, Which web-based training site(s) do you assign for your students? At our institution, we use Linda.com for basic and intermediate training for our students. Tremayne Simpson

Ted, This is an effective format for receiving student input. In addition, the "open dialogue" can have a positive effect on the overall class environment, in that students will establish a comfort level with contributing to class discussions. Tremayne Simpson
April, Excellent point. Nevertheless, I feel that it is a good idea to keep an outline of the course lesson plan (can be informal and does not have to extensive in detail), to ensure that the daily learning objectives are being met within the framework of the allotted class time. Tremayne Simpson
Glenn, Keeping "physical" plans is a good idea. In addition, it is a good idea to have "electronic" plans, as a "backup", just in case the binder is misplaced. Tremayne Simpson

Thomas, To counter this, I generally create a "checks and balances" system for collaborative activities. Group members are given evaluation forms that they use to assess each member of the group and I read the comments to find "unversal" themes in regards to individual student contributions. Karen, Enhancing the supplemental activities, can make the "rot" subjects more engaging for the students. Additionally, I find that implementing collaborative activities (if applicable) can assist with student engagement as well. Tremayne Simpson

Maria , I agree with this approach to lesson planning. It is a great idea to leave flexibility within the schedule, to allow for spontaneous activities, that will assist with the delivery of the learning objectives. Tremayne Simpson
