Dr. Christopher, I agree. There is an abundance of relevant information, that can be used to enhance the instructional capabilities of the courses. All additional materials can be added to the student portal for individual research. Tremayne Simpson
Lisa, This is an interesting dynamic. Have you consulted the program chair, to see if there is a possibility to change the course textbook? Tremayne Simpson
Yolanda, This is a great example of an informal, diagnostic assessment. Students tend to be more candid in the responses (regarding prior knowledge), when it is not communicated that they are being "tested". Tremayne Simpson

Jennie, I agree that it is beneficial for an instructor to completely organize and manage their time. However, I do believe that it is important for the instructor to leave a little "flex" time within the lesson plan, in order to account for unplanned discussions or impromptu assignments. Michael, With a truncated amount of class time, I feel that it is best to summarize the key topics of the unit and assign the additional material for homework. It is not the best use of time, to completely review each assigned chapter...in a college level course this should be expected of the students. Tremayne Simpson
Douglas, You are not alone...this is a common issue for instructors. We all tend to try to "do too much", because we want to ensure that our students receive a premium learning experience in our courses. The key is to ensure that the students are able to retain and apply the information that we provide them with. Tremayne Simpson
Robert, You may also want to try "Prezi", which can really add a "spark" to the presentation. PowerPoint is good, however it is a little limited. Tremayne Simpson

Stephen , This is a unique and elaborative process. Have you had success with getting your students to complete this document? Tremayne Simpson
Jason, For instructors that teach several different courses and at different institutitions, this is actually a common occurance. Lesson plans can assist an instructor with remembering some of the distinct "tidbits" that they used, in teaching a particular course. Therefore it is best to provide as much detail as possible, to assist in remembering the course. Tremayne Simpson
Becky, Excellent question. In the past (with new courses), I have asked other instructors to borrow their lesson plans or templates. This is a good starting point, which can be used to develop and revise for yourself. Tremayne Simpson
