I learned that accomodations are meant to provide equal access and does not take into consideration the success of the student. As a new career service advisor, I recognize how I could build rapport and assist in the accomodation process, but do not need to take that on on my own. It is eye opening to watch the one video shared of the individual in the wheelchair who advocated for her self and felt empowered by being able to do so. This topic has come a long way.

I enjoyed learning about upholidng your dignity within interviewing and interaction with employers or coworkers. Communication is very important and having emotional intelligence is as well. Following the steps provided will definitely help someone make a great impression within their introductory period.

Very helpful information to relay to students preparing for an interivew. Being self aware of how you present yourself in presentation and speech is inmportant. First impressions happen relatively quickly. You want to dress the part as well as be able to effectively present the part as well.

My main take away from this section was that consistency and doing your proper research or reflection is important for resume and cover letter writing.

I enjoyed reading through this section. I never thought of how the signature of your email is self promotion. This is a great tool for if you are interested in networking and might have the connections via email, but not on your linked in network yet.

I think going over the basic professionalism of email communication and in-person drop ins is important for students to remember. First impressions go along way and not being prepared before entering a company or sending the email can pose a problem.

I have come to recognize that your leadership legacy is develop throughout not just at the end. I learned more about the challenges of non completion rates in comparison to ecionomic status.

My takeaway for the lesson is that leaders do not aspire without followers. As a leader you should be open and develop trust with your team. Your personality has an impact on how others receive your leadership.

Being new to higher education and nto as knowledgable of the healthcare field as I would want to be, one of my main take aways is to dive into the curriculum and inductry. Make sure that you are informed and knowledgeable of the field because this can ruin your credibility which can ruin relationships. The engagement are important and they grow/evolve over time with employers. You want to make sure that each are receiving benefits from the engagement.

Great take aways! I like the idea of having the student reflect upon the interview afterwards as an activity. We do that now, however; I think it could be more of a learning activtiy vs a talking point and transition into feedback from myself.

Doing the proper research on a company or interviewer will be helpful to connect and make a first impression during the interview. This will help the student's nerves by seeing the interviewer connect with them.

Effective communication is so important between the advisor and student. It is often difficult to build rapport when you do not have an opportunity to meet in person much or at all. Wording of an email is important. One must take in consideration how the reader will perceive what is written when received. There are ways you can subtly build rapport through written communication. Emoticons, key phrases, use of student's name etc. You want to make sure you acknowlege and understand what a student is asking or what their goal is of the conversation. Keep conversations on the sunny side… >>>
