I like the do not call list on my home end, however I think for the educational component of it may be lacking as it may keep students out of the education link because they are unable to be reached.

As an instructor who deals with students with disabilities and a mother of a child with Asperger's syndrome I find the IEP's to be a negative and more focus should be on a positive note. Again teaching medical students who have to sit for a major certification exam at the end of their courses I feel that bending my teaching styles to accommodate them only sets them up for failure in the end. They may get through the classes because accommodation were made to help them succeed, however there are no accommodations made during the national certification. No one is… >>>

I understand the concepts here in this module, however I teach Medical students. The absolutely need to know how to spell and spell correctly. I have found that students coming from outside the united states have a hard time with our vowels and silent letters. They spell "HOME" like this "HOM". They spell everything the way it sounds. Writing in a persons medical chart and having typos can be a huge legal issue.
Discussion Comment
I have a true problem with the group learning. When I put students in groups and try to balance out the diversity I run into problems with personality and students not contributing or ones who feel over run by others.
I agree with the comment about floating around the classroom. I use a clicker to forward my power point so I do not feel strapped to the front of the room. I also think it keeps the students on their toes and off the internet and cell phones.
I use a free online teacher's tool called ENGRADE. The students can see everything and follow there progress in the course. It also has a messaging system built into it so I can send emails out to the entire class. I love it.
I am a new instructor at a school. I am teaching AP I and have found that some of the information included in there book is to intense for the type of students I am teaching. I am very well organized and do read all my lecture notes and chapter material before I present it. I have been able to pick out the information that pertains to all three types of students in my class and try to relate the topics to my Surgical Tech students, my Medical Assistant students and my Massage therapy students.
Do you think the older students do better in their learning styles as visual because of the traditional method of presenting the lecture material?
I am a huge believer in field trips and guest speakers. I feel that both give the students an opportunity to see what their career choice has in store for them. In my 7 years of teaching I have had several Medical Assistant students observe an open heart surgery and come out and say this field is not for me and chose a different career path.
I am a strong believer that you as the instructor set the tone for professionalism in the classroom that will be picked up by the students and carried out to the work force.
