It is important to understand yourself as an instructional leader so the students will be able to learn from my instructional style or way of teaching. Understanding yourself also helps with organizing the class material and content so its presented in a way students can understand and learn from my teaching charisma or style and experience.
Nolan:
Yes, I agree, there is much importance in understanding and developing positive environments and personal attributes that can effectively influence your students performance.
Perhaps the most chellenging task is to be willing to examine onself, strengths and weknesses, acknowledge them, and then be willing to make changes where applicable. It can be a very humbling experience.

Hi Victor:
It is true that understanding ones weaknesses can positively contribute to their education effectiveness. Our goal as educators is to make efforts to reduce the effect of our weaknesses, and work towards building our strengths.
Part of the instructional leadership responsibility is to attempt to utilize every resource in assisting their students achieve success. Utilizing most of the keys in the module will contribute towards that goal.

I did not know there was so much importance in knowing who I am when it comes to style. I found that this module was very informative and useful to me.
knowing your weaknesses and work on them will help you in the long run
Hi Stephen:
You are very correct. The difficulty comes when instructors not interested in learning inward traits about themselves, unwilling to recognize there are other methods to achieve better results, or just simple resistance to change.
What these instructors fail to realize is that their primary purpose as teachers is being minimalized and unfortunately, their students are going to suffer as the result.

Knowing what type of instructor you are can help you to be the instructor that you are not by appealing to every learning style.
Hi John:
Students are often likely to experience self doubt or uncertainty about their ability to fully grasp course material. Utilizing our expertise in relating to a variety of learners along with an understanding of their individual weaknesses will help them become more successful. Managing a class, in some ways, can be thought of as managing a family. In that sense, it's easy to see that individual attention to each member is needed and the approach may be quite different in the relationship.

By understanding yourself you can help students to overcome thier weaknesses & strengthen thier ability to overcome obsticles
Better way to teaching for students, you have to understanding of yourself.
Hi Lori:
I'm glad you found this information interesting.
Tell me, which preparation method did you find you could begin to use in your daily work, how will you use it, and why do you think it'll be beneficicial to your students?

Understanding yourself provides a foundation for preparing yourself!
I found this information interesting and helpful, thanks.
Hi John:
Desiring to know ones strengths and weaknesses is certainly a helpful aspiration. Using this “knowledge†and applying it in the classroom is the challenge for instructors who wish to help their students. This would be particularly true with areas an instructor has identified as “weakâ€. That vulnerable spot could make a difference in a student performing well or not. So, adapting to the student need is an important application of knowing something about you.

To help you understand your strenths & weaknesses so you can work on improvement
Hi Steve:
Good thoughts. I think the key word in your comment is facilitator, i.e., to help, assist, support, share, listen, demonstrate...etc. It's like when the instructor is serious about their students learning, they're going to give all they have. And that will work best when the instructor understands his/her strengths and limitations.
Regards, Barry
It is important to understand yourself as an instructional leader so you may do what is best at the appropriate time. Few people have the complete array of evenly balanced attributes of a successful facilitator . You need to know your strengths so you may capitalize on them as well as your weaknesses so you can slow down and comminicate properly what is necessary. I feel that if I do not understand myself how can I expect others to.
I find that I am very influenced by my students, which undercuts the idea of being an "instructional leader." For me the most effective teaching/leading style balances students' impact on me with my role as teacher. So I always endeavor to get to know my students as well as time and equality permits. Especially those students who may be reluctant to interact or get to know me.
Hi Ron:
You've hit on a important tenet of preparing your classes - we really do have to be a "chameleon" and "Jack-of-all-trades" so to speak. That will help us relate to the most variety of students.
Also important to recognize is each instructor has their own style, preferences, perspectives, etc. which contribute to that bouquet of interaction leading to the quality instruction.
