It is always important to be organized when you are a teacher. If you are not organized, you will not really be able to use your time in class to its fullest advantage, and you might not really know what you are supposed to be teaching on a given day. If you are organized, you can run your classroom smoothly, and give the students the confidence that they need from you as a teacher.
I agree. I find that when I have all the necessary presentations in order, it helps open up time in class for more in-depth discussion. Students feel more involved and can participate more. Overall I think that earns you the respect you deserve as well as gives the students the respect they deserve.
not only teaching, in all aspects of life we need to be well organized. It save time and energy. we can perform our duties much better when every thing is well planned. Specially while we are teaching we must have lesson plan. students must know what will be taught in the next class. hand outs must be copied prior to the class start.
ORGANIZATION IS IMPORTANT IF YOUR NOT ORGANIZED YOUR STUDENTS WILL NOT UNDERSTAND YOU
Hello Barry,
Thank you. I also believe students respond better to a teacher who shows that they are interested in their students. Being prepared shows not only that you are organized and in control, but also that you want the students to get as much out of their classroom experience and lessons as possible.
Hi Vilma:
I agree and believe when students see that theior nteacher has gone to some effort to get the class ready, hass all of the materials, conducts and controls class in an orderly and scholary manner, that will will convey the "tone" expected of students, with resultant improved respect and courtesy displayed both to the teacher and classmates. I don't mean stale - in fact better classes are vibrant, stimulating and alive. But rarely does that occur without solid preparation and planning.
Regards, Barry
It is very important to be organized as an instructor so that all of the time is dedicated towards teaching the students. It lets you know what you will be touching upon during said classtime. A topic and subtopic help to pinpoint exactly what you want the students to learn. Having handouts and visual aids ready helps to minimize any time that the students will be sitting idle. the longer they sit idle, the more chance they have of talking and horsing around, breaking the flow of the class and their concentration as well. The time it takes to get them back in line is also a waste.
I completely agree. I don't want to be worrying about getting material together when I need to be presenting the information to the class. As a student I did not appreciate unorganized instructors. It made me feel they were not providing the best education and they were wasting my time. Also, I don't feel I can ask students to come to class on time, turn in their assignments on time, or be prepared for the class if I don't manage my time well.
SHOWING YOUR STUDENTS YOU ARE ORGANIZED AND PREPARED FROM THE VERY FIRST DAY OF CLASS SHOWS THAT YOU RESPECT YOUR STUDENTS NEEDS. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO SHOW YOU ARE THERE TO HELP AND ENCOURAGE THEM DURING THE LEARNING PROCESS. AS AN INSTRUCTOR YOU GAIN MUTUAL RESPECT AND DEVELOP RAPPORT WHICH ENCOURAGES RETENTION AND ENGAGEMENT.
Being organized helps instructors stay on track with the syllabus as well as keeping class management under control. Our courses are only 12 weeks and the syllabus is usually geared toward a 16 week course. Being unorganized is not an option to teach everything that the students will be responsible for.
Hello,
It's essential for an instructor to prepare for each class daily as it helps you anticipate points of struggle/questions for students and be prepared to address them. It will help with the depth of your explanation and quantity/quality of examples. You will also be prepared to make any connections with preview material or future material. You can show students the relevance of what is being studied and the continuation/flow of concepts.
As an instructor it's important for me to set the tone of the class from the very beginning. We are training professionals and therefore we should first act as professionals. Being unprepared shows your students that this kind of behavior is acceptable. If an instructor is unprepared for class, he or she cannot expect their students to be prepared for class.
I agree. Time taken from instruction to copy handouts, tests or other materials is learning time wasted. Be prepared !
Being organized helps the teaching process run more smoothly for the instructor and learning for the students. Being prepared for class is also important because it allows for making the most of each and every minute spent in the classroom. Organizing and being prepared allows the students to get the most out of the course.
Hi Gwen,
I think you make a very good point here. As instructors we are role models for our students, and we demonstrate the right, or in some cases, wrong, ways of doing things. Being on time and prepared is a fundamental part of any job, and therefore, we should always try demonstrate to the students that we are capable of handling this very basic task.
Good post! Jodi
Hi Cheryl,
I agree that students tend to get distracted when an instructor's focus is not on them. An instructor that is in the classroom and ready when the students arrive, creates a calm and inviting atmosphere.
An instructor should be organized and prepared to teach because it shows that he/she respects their students' time and money spent for their education. A student will, in turn, have more respect for an instructor that comes to class prepared and on-time. Classroom management is important because the main objective for an instructor should be for the student to learn. Without organizational and time-management skills, the students will not learn. Finally, I believe that the students pick up on the mood and organization of the instructor. If the instructor appears frazzled, chances are that the students will be confused and more distracted.
It shows a good exampleto the students and helps focus on why you're there instead of them watching you fumble.
First of all it shows respect for yourself and the students. It shows you care about the students success. It helps to keep you on track and refocus when you need to.
When you see an instructor walking down the hall with their hands full of papers you know that it is going to take then at least 5 to 10 minutes to organize their information. This means that the students are waiting for their teacher to begin. During this time the studnets can be talking, creating a disturbance, or just acting out. If you are organized and ready when your students come into class they know that their need to get working on their assignments right away. They don't have time to goof off or cause problems.
