The goal as far as I am concerned with educating students is to give them the tools they will need to succeed. Help in giving them the opportunity to better themselves, and make a better life for them and their family.

Julius,
I want the students experience to contribute to success on the job. My passion and enthusiasm usually creates a very solid base to grow on. I try to instill a desire for lifelong learning, and an attitude that promotes continuous learning, especially after graduation and employment has been secured.

The goal for educating students is to prepare them for a career in their field. We have to help them learn the basic and necessary skills in order for them to be successful in their career.

LaNeisha,
"Prepared for life-long learning" is a goal I've tried to maintain and impart to students throughout my career. When students take their initial training and begin to build on it, they're setting themselves up for better opportunities, promotions, and a more satisfying life.

Aileen,
Critical thing and problem solving abilities tend to make better workers. Recall of information is one level, and thinking through a situation to achieve a acceptable outcome is a whole other level of application of their training and instruction.

The goal of educating students is to prepare them for their field of choice by providing them with knowledge and hands on training that will allow them to be employed at a enter level position. In the career college aspect it also opens up the oppritunity for students to futher or continue their eductaion.

We are not only preparing them for real life experience but hope to give them the basics so if they come across a different situation they are not completely lost.

Jviveros,
In these instances, I would think problem solving, critical thinking, customer service, and technical skills would among the higher priorities as goals.

Our school is a automotive trade school we try to prepare the student for the work force which at times can be very challenging because some of the students have never seen a engine dip stick.

Holli,
I think we have succeeded when students become good problem solvers, critical thinkers, and possess the knowledge, skills, and behaviors aligned with their career choice. This takes them beyond mere recall of facts, and elevates them to making appropriate decisions once they begin working.

Stacy,
I like this. Another similar goal I have is assuring students acquire the knowledge, skills, and behaviors consistent with the job they're training for. Critical thinking and effective communication skills are a component of these also.

The goal of educating students, as i see it, is to help students develop the skills involved in "learning to learn" and in generalization of knowledge (especially through the development of "creative use" skills). I develop classroom delivery methods, assignments, and assessments that integrate these goals. Rote memory for the "tools" needed for creative use is vital, then opportunity to discuss and practice novel application is imperative. Exploring how others have previously used the same "tools" is a great way to bridge the gap between the tool acquisition process and the creative use advancement stage.

Using the definition of learning to have the students apply the knowledge in new and different ways is the goal I have for educating my students.

Joshua,
Of course we're interested in preparing students for the job market, and as you say, the ability to communicate think and solve problems, and be a professional are all traits that an employer will embrace.

I think the goal is to help them make cognitive choices that will allow them to react in a positive way to experiences the face in the future.

Tiffany,
True change that occurs through acquiring new skills and knowledge, along with the personal satisfaction of understanding the effort and hard work required to attain this access is something that can't ever be taken away from an individual.

The goal of educating a student is opening there eyes to a diffrent world that they can build for themselves. This is allowing them to know that with out more education there success is minimum.

Jennifer,
Most work settings do require application beyond just the recall of facts (such as what may be largely provided by schooling). Ability to solve problems, provide safe and accurate procedures, and follow directions are good outcomes. Good communication and professionalism are the necessary soft skills that get employees noticed -- for the good or bad!
