Robert,
I like the idea of exposing students. That term suggests that students will have an opportunity to do well or just mediocre in their studies. When we create opportunities, there will always be students that take advantage and seize that opportunity!

The goal of educating students is finding their passion in what they want to do, putting a time line and exposing them to resources they will need to do it.I have heard that the journey starts with the opening of the door.I believe the door opening in education of students id their passion.
Christie,
I agree. Lifelong learning is an admiral task to take on, impart, and see the fruition of in student successfulness. For the small amount of time they are with us, we have the capabilities of doing so much, potentially, for positive changes in their lives.

I beleive the goal in educating students, higher education specifically, is to develop life-long practices to aid in successful careers and life decisions. Coming to work on time, being diligent and effective, participating in extra activities, socializing, and learning new methods are practiced I try to teach daily in the classroom. These are instituted from the beginning and reminded throughout the course of a semester. Ultimately, my goal is to have students learn something new, however big or small, and to take that skill with them.
Robert,
Nice poetic way of stating your response. A career is like a journey and in a way is always developing. If we can get students to be critical thinkers then we will have helped them not only get started but helped them in every job they obtain, and even in their personal lives.

goal of educating students is partnering with them to take their dreams and make them a goal by putting a time line on that dream so now it is a destination for the student.
Eurico,
I think besides knowledge and skills, other postive attributes include behavior attitude, professionalism, even dress and grooming. Also, when we teach critical thinking, we help the student both in work and in their personal lives.

The skills that I have, Proper training and instructions to my students will prepare them to be ready in the industry what they prepared for with the quality and high standards they expect for.
Angela,
Yes, getting and keeping a job is pretty solid evidence a students instructor has been successful.

For me the goal of educating students is giving them the knowledge and skills needed to be successful in the career path they have chosen.
Jenny,
At graduation ceremonies I hear students share their experiences being in school for almost two years. We do prepare them for a career, but there are many lessons that pertain to life in general they learn in school, besides job oriented situations. Mostly, being among a group of others preparing for the same career area teaches attritbutes like communication, behavior, professionalism, accountabbility, responsibility, and persistence, all great traits to possess if one is seeking meaningful employment these days.

I want my students to be successful in all areas of life not just their career choice.
Melissa,
Yeah, we want them ready for a job or the beginning of a career. There are multiple layers to this being accomplished successfully, and one layer is the appropriate response to our instruction and the dililgence to apply that knowledge in a responsible manner. We can instruct but the student has to be able to apply what we give. That's what I mean by layers. At one level, they may have new information they get from usw, but applying it successfully in the worplace is another layer, and that is up to the student.

My goal when educating students is to make sure that they have the skills needed to make a career out of their chosen field.
Lindsey,
Of course, transferring the knowledge, skills, behavior, and attitude requisite for the job is needed at a minimum. I think if we can get students to be critical thinkers, that'd help them in more than just their job, but also in life. Also, sharing the attribute of being kind....there's less of that these days and students who emulate their successful instructors might make the work setting just a little better place to be.

The goal of educating students is to provide the students with knowledge and skills required for success after graduating. I share with my students personal examples I've experienced in my career in hopes they will learn from my mistakes/experiences. Ideally, I think to think that my students will remember me after graduation by thinking of one of my experiences and use something from my story in their current profession.
Kim,
Yes, and that usually includes at least skills, knowledge, and appropriate behavior. Critical thinking would be great to impart to every student as well.
Barry Westling
To provide the student with the capability of performing a job.
Sue,
Great synopsis. I think when students take their studies seriously, most programs are developed in a manner that should guarantee student-graduate success in the workplace.

The goal of educating students is to provide them with the skills and knowledge needed for an entry level position in their field of study. My role as an instructor is to share my expertise and passion for the subject matter and provide "real world" situations with my students. They must be able to transfer the knowledge they obtain in my classroom to the situations they will face on the job. In addition to this, soft skills are essential, and many students have not developed them. It is also my job to not only discuss these soft skills, but to be a role model to my students. I must demonstrate professionalism at all times with my students, and explain the importance of them in the work place.
