The instructional method I have used is consistant with my personality of being physical and using facial, hands and moving around. My intent is to develop pointed statements by my gesters. However this method my not serve me well all the time and so to delvelop a more socil style my prove productive.

Hi Bari:
If a teacher is enthusiastic, animated, compassionate, and/or approachable, these personality types reach out to students better than more formal personality styles. I don't think there's anything magical about adapting ones personality. We just need to be willing to adapt and be open (assuming that's not the case already).

Hi Holly:
Boy, I agree with you 100%. A friendly, approachable, open and sincere personality that projects confidence, competence and compassion will open more doors to student success than lesser personalities, even if they have the technical knowledge to share. I think people like stories, so that particular technique is a good one for most occasions.

The instructors delivery method sets the tone for the class and how well the students will pay attention.

My personality is going to help engage my students in the subject matter - the pitch of my voice, the addition of some amusing observations, and using examplpes from my own personal experience help the students realize that I am a person as well as an instructor. I like to think my personality during lecture delivery makes them more at ease, so the they will retain the information better.

Hi George:
I agree that personality has an impact on students and the resultant learning that will occur. It's true we tend to speak of personality as a positive attribute, but it's just as true that poor personality traits can be offensive to some, and therefore become a barrier to learning.

Hi Stephen:
Well, you're probably a good dancer nonetheless!

Seriously, students remember teachers, lessons, activities that are entertaining. I think it's because they become open to whatever activity is occuring, and once they're open - bingo! - we caught them. Variety and creativeity are always better received than a "talking head" kind of delivery.

Personality / attitude triggers an emotinal response. If the attitude is accepted, the deliverer can be very effective. If not, the deliverer has created a barrier. Between knowledge, skills and attitudes/personality, personality/attitude is the most effective part of personal power. Personal poweing being the confluence of two fundamental attributes; demonstrated espertise and attrractive personality attributes. Of course ones attitude is defined by those around them not the person themselves. Without the active and directed use of personality/attitude the conveyance, abosroption, comprehension and utlization of "knowledge" and "skills" will not be very effective and meaningful for students.

Hi Jon:
Active teachers do add a dynamic learning environment and, as you say, requires a lot of energy for sustained delivery and presentation.

I have long thought that teaching was one-third informing, one-third motivating and one-third entertaining. I do not mean, by entertaining that I wander at all away from the subject, but most any discipline can be dry and dull if delivered in a monotonous and monohromatic fashion. I don't any dances on my desk, but I do try to keep things upbeat, lively and participatory.

it plays a very big role i tend to be very anamated and use alot of energy in my teaching

Hi Joseph:
I think in a program such as yours where you're "out there" so much, a positive, approachable personality might be a job requirement. You also have the opportunity for role modeling while conducting good solid instructional material. Now, all of that material is probably contained somewhere in the textbook, but the personality is what briongs life to it!

Hi Tenisha:
Your personalization of the class is great. I think these kinds of things helps create more positive relationships with your students, and because of that, makes for a better learning environment.

I am an instructor at a career college, in a program that requires a vast amount of hands on and practical skills. Personality is important because at all times I try to be positive, goal oriented and a coach. For many of our lessons, it takes more than one try accomplish the task. A negative or condesending personality would cause a great deal of harm and could lead to a student shutting down. I find that being positive, encouraging and offering extra help before and after labs gives the students the confidence to master the task .

My personality plays a key role in the success of my students and the retention of vital information. I am very animated in class. I create funny dances and acronyms to help my students to memorize important information. I due extra research on all subjects for which I teach so the student know I am not just following the book. Once I have determined the age group and mind set of my students, I tailor my lectures and it's deliveries in a way for which I believe the students will retain the most information.

Hi Amy:
Getting your students trust is huge! They'll be more open to you, even if you have to correct them. This is a very important attribute all teachers should learn to do.

My personality plays a very large part in delivery selection. My personality is to assimilate with my students so that they feel comfortable and gain my trust. Open to learn and least at embarrassment.

Hi Sarah:
I think any time a teacher is passionate about their teaching, stuidents are going to benefit. The enthusiasm and excitement creates a motivated learning environment.

My personality conveys which subjects within the discipline of culinary arts I am very passionate about. I usually start with an introductory lecture about a subject I love so that students see that I am both knowledgeable and passionate, then I can engage them in other subjects that I am not quite as passionate about.

Hi Lauraine:
My goodness, you're right, personality provides such an important contribution to effective instruction. Delivery is almost as important as the content being presented. Students are always going to be more receptive to likable instructors they perceive as approachable and willing to help them with their studies.

The good thing is this can be a learned behavior that nearly anyone improve and implemment if they are willing to be better teachers.
