Our instructional format is instructor demonstration, student practice, conversational critique. That makes it a bit easier in selecting media and delivery. i do, at times though, have the opportunity to bring in posters, powerpoints, and videos that highlight what I am about to demonstrate.

I would think you would choose certain medias for different subject content

I haven't have the chance yet to teach or use a media to delivered a content, but I will select someone that is well knowledge in the material that I am teaching, like a Dentist, Hygienist. i will also any information that is related to the course that I am teaching.

Selection of media correlates directly to the percentages of different types of learners you have in the room.
One size does not fit all in this case.
Understanding the various demographics of your class, then matching that to the predominant style of learning that would have been popular during their school years is most helpful. Also looking at the types and styles of advertising media for that period as well, would give strong indications of the most successful methods of delivery.

Also it is a plus if the intructor has either public speaking , demonstration, muscial, artistic, or theatrical training to assist in use of those mediums to drive the information.

It depends on the lesson for that day and the amount of interest I want my students to have. I also need to hold their attention to the topic so thta they may learn.

It depends on the topic. It can be fun to bring in movies or video's to break up the monotony of lecture. It can be fun to look up youtube videos or to google information, the millennial students are very tech savvy and this definitely gets them interested in the topics being covered.

it is very important to select appropriat media as per avaialability esp.in cinical setting since that keeps their interest in learning and outcomes are better.

I teach Applications, and Having a Learn by Doing Teaching Strategy, I live by The "SmartWall"..Well Not Exactly...
I connect a Projector onto my laptop or School computer, and Do a Case within the Book...and While I do, my students also must do...
Students who "Get It" help students who do not, making sure I do not go any further unless all students are at the point I am "Leaving No Student Behind"..
Students must hand in this work at the end of this instruction..

I try to select relevant media to course material. I also try to introduce new media as it applies to encourage and excite students to learn more about the technology available in their field. Communication is always changing due to advancements in technology, and I like to give students the opportunity to learn about them, and learn to use them.

The selection of instructional media is based from how you prefer to send the information to your audience, your audience, your subject, and what you want your audience to learn and absorb.

I also like to use a wide variety of teaching tools. I use powerpoint presentations, white board for highlighting important material, and live subjects for in class demonstrations.

Media selection is a careful balance between content, target audience, time, location, and resources.

Hi Linda:
Nothing wrong with YouTube (except students watching that instead of listening to you).

Variety in media selection is one of less seemly but more important teacher responsibilities. It's here that you are deciding what is the best way for me to convey the necessary material in the most time efficient and interesting manner.

So taking time and putting thought into this responsibility can pay dividends in the end when assessng student performance, as much will have to do with the media selctions made prior to the class.

I base the media I use on the content and how well I believe it will come across to my students. I have used many different forms of media for my classes. I have even used clips from shows that are shown on Youtube.

Hi Amanda:
Media selection is one of the more enjoyable responsibilities for a teacher because it enables us to express our creativity, use a variety of resources, see the progess made by students as they advance towards achievement, and makes the job of teaching more enjoyable and interesting.

Keeping students active is a key. The more involved they are the more they'll retain.

I select media that best helps my students relate or understand the information being taught. I prefer visual stimulation because it gives more detail to the points I'm trying to make with lecture alone. I also use a lot of hand-on activities and group projects. I love to be challenged as well as a challenge to my students.

Hi Ken:
Choosing the best media really requires some thoght. One thing is what do the student learning outcomes (SLO's) and course objectives dictate? These would define how to approach choosing media.

As you alluded to, is the information oriented towards theory, lab and skills, or values and behavior. There are probably dozens of choices and considerations from there.

Probably want to consider factors such as generational differences, age and gender, learning styles, and learning level.

Fianally, what resouces do we have access to? PPT is good but want to limit that or mix it up with other media choices (whiteboard, discussion, flipcahrt, overhaed, Q&A, class exercise or worksheets, etc).

Hi Bernabe:
Varieity is very important. Students retain more when differenjt media are used to provided the lessons.

If a course has well written student learning outcomes and course objectives, that provides a great platform to choose alternative methods to teach from. I think we always want to think about how best can this material be presented in a manner that's effective, interesting, and memorable. Usiually, that won't be just one or two meddia choices.

Hi James:
This sounds great. Not too many participants in this forum have mentioned outdoor exercise (other than field trips).

Humorously, I'll add "well, why is the lecture boring in the first place?". But seriously, I understand there are activities that are more interesting and enjoyable that make learning fun and memorable.

Regards, Barry

For visual learning, most likely power point
presentations.
If the content is detailed it is permissable to
use power point but I would only put a limited
of information on one slide.
If content is hands-on, then I will need to
use physical demonstration models.
