Pretesting for Better Results
I found that if I pretest the students, they have the opportunity to see the areas they are weak in and improve on this. It also encouorages the students to strive for more. If they received a grade 'B' on the pretest, students see just by encorporating better study habits can be worth the effort.
Hi Trena:
Pretests are great for identifying what kind of student learner you have, which can make for more effective lesson planning.

I like the idea of pretesting, we have to remember that its all about the student. I use pretesting to help set the pace of my class. Pretesting also helps me identify more with my students.
Hi Lisa:
Said a slightly different way, this activity allows us to put the emphasis of the course where it can have the most meaning.

I support the idea of pre-tests. I tell my students here is their chance to show me what they know and that will help me to structure the class around their needs- because that is what it is all about- teaching them- they are my focus! and this sentence makes them feel important and feel that the money they are spending on an education is worth it! Lisa
Tornetta,
In two courses I am involved in teaching a pre-test is given each time it is presented. I have found that the test does exactly what you stated, it determines areas of weakness and gives them as well as myself the opportunity to improve and encouorages them to do even more.
all the best,
Jim
Hi Tornetta:
I think students really don't mind being pretested.
We can use the information to compare day 1 performance against last day performance. We can indirectly use it to measure our own teaching effectiveness.
I agree that once students know where they stand many will motivated to srtive for better performance too.
