Using pre-test

In adult education, it is critical that students are given some type of pre- assessment. Adult students come with background education and knowledge and instructors should acknowledge it as much possible in order to keep them engage.

Randolph,
Right. And customizing the lessons for individual classes (every one is a bit different) assures that more students will perform better more often, in more essential material, and achieve better student outcomes more often.

I like to pretest this allowes insite as to students that will need extra help as soon as the course starts and to focus on areas that could be difficult for some students to understand

Anthony,
Yes, and when an instructor is able to manage their time and emphasis on what material is most important based on the class's prior knowledge, better student outcomes are likely to be the result.

This is the same way I use pretests. It gives me an idea of what parts of the class we should spend the most time on.

Jaime,
This is perfect use for pretesting. Knowledge about prior learning and/or performance can only help a diligent instructor adequately plan their plan for meaningful class sessions.

Giving a pretest to my students gives me an idea how to start lesson and course content. I use the pretest as a compass, so that I can blend the lesson in a way that is fundamental for the weak and polish up the strong.

Mildred,
There's no doubt, pretesting helps in at least two ways. One is it gives the instructor an idea about prior knowledge. The other is students may get a preview of what's ahead and may even begin to prepare for areas they see is weaker. Knowing something about prior knowledge helps instructors plan where more (or less) emphasis is needed in a given category.
