Pre-tests

I have been giving my students pre-tests since I began teaching. They have been very helpful in guiding me to put more emphasis on the areas that they are not as strong in.

Monir,
Sounds like a great system. Students like to know what it will take to get the best grades.

I give my student pre-test in first day of the class to know my student's level of knowledge that help me to know how to work with them , then I have handout with all the questions that I am going to use for quizzes to them that if they study for sure they can get A.
This way I help my students to learn the objective as well as happy with the great grade.

Joe,
Right. We want to plan, but plan the right level and degree of course material that's appropriate for the present class.

By giving Pre-test it will help the students have an idea of what is going to be covered as well as help the teacher know what the students will need more work on

Patricia,
Some teachers do both pre and post testing. I have given the exact pretest at the end of a course to demonstrate how much progress has been made, and it is usually quite a morale booster and motivating activity.

Pre-tests are built into our curriculum. Not only does it reveal what a student does and does not know, it also allows them a peek into what will be taught in the unit.

I have taken both pre and post-tests during various trainings to compare what I knew coming into the course, versus what I learned after taking the course.

Lan,
Knowing about a students prior knowledge can assist the instructor plan where more or less emphasis may be needed in select portions of their course.

I use pre-test for my students level of knowledge .

Sudarshan Daniel,
Pre-course selection based on pretesting makes sense, especially for advanced placement.

Barry Westling

pre-test helps to assess aptitude of students and also helps instructor to know students who will excel and which ones would be inept in learning higher advanced courses

Corey,
Great. You could probably give lessons on it. You might suggest that to you administration...might help at annual evaluation time.
