we watch Utube videos of experienced chefs at work so the students ee the level of skills and expertise. Research projects also use technology to gatehr information adn then share it with the class. Students and faculty create power point presentations for studying and test preparation
setting up an interaction on the computer shows the students how to do something and gives them a chance to try it out before trying it out on each other
I have had great success using turnitin with my students. Students are given the steps to create a login and told to load a paper then review the results. At first they mightbe flumoxed by what they see, but after a bit they realize how helpful it is in helping them detect accidentaly plagiarism. The fact that it is on the web and they need a computer to access it outside the classroom is an added bonus because it encourages them to use technology to solve problems!
Integrating technology has been the most challenging aspect of teaching for me. As I have improved, I have been able to use PowerPoint presentations, which I find are very useful for my visual learners. Additionally, I have my students give presentations for their research projects. Often, many of my students do a remarkable job at demonstrating their knowledge and understanding of a particular topic, especially when they explain each slide in detail and synthesize the information they have researched.
I use the website of some of our lab equipment suppliers. They frequently have online courses the student can take to learn how to use a machine or run a test. These have been very helpful.

The students in my classes view PowerPoint presentations for each chapter and take online quizzes. I think it is essential to incorporate visual and auditory input to enhance learning.
I incorporate PowerPoint presentations for chapter material; it is essential to add visual as well as auditory input to enhance learning. Also, the students take online quizzes and view addional online lectures.
I use the internet to keep abreast of my students
favor music or TV shows and incorporate this
information into the lesson plan to make my teaching
more appealing.
Adrienne,
Are there any administrative plans to add computer labs to your building?

David,
I agree. In addition, in order to ensure that students are responding to their classmates, it is a good idea to require that each student respond to another student's post (can be added to the assignment guidelines).

I could not wait to post in this forum! I teach cosmetology and our building is across the highway from our main campus. We have 4 computers total for a program of 100 plus students and no connection to wifi. So we have to be pretty imaginative when it come to technological integration. It's a shame really. There are so many resources n the computer for our industry that we don't have access to. Any suggestions?
I utilize multiple phases of computer technology, from Power Point, to educational CD's, on-line videos and internet research assignments. I am lucky enough to work in a facility that has multiple computer labs as well as computer access in the campus library, and we have instructor computers in every classroom with projectors. Students are permitted to use laptops/tablets for note taking during class as well.
I teach motorcycle electrical and use a smart board that I can highlight a wiring diagram that I have on the computer, this enables me to have the same wiring diagram on the screen while the students have a paper copy in front of them and we can trace the circuit together. I also try to integrate the same technology the motorcycle industry uses in my lab, after all that is the same technology they will be seeing and using once they enter the field.
I use ytube to give my students a way to view real like procedures that we have discuss in class. This seems to help them apply what has been learned to the real process.
I use online course discussions through our sharepoint system because it gets the students involved in discussions among classmates and i feel it helps in people seeing a different opinion than their own.
I have recently integrated 3D teleprecense into some classrooms here. This gives us the ability to bring in a guest speaker by VTC and actually project the person into the classroom. The camera is directly behind a teleprompter like screen, so the person and the class are capable of seeing the each other and establishing eye contact and a much higher level of personnel contact than traditional VTC. Our students say this is the next best thing to being there.
In the fashion design program, whenever I give lectures on Power point, I usually have links to certain support resources like a website, fashion show, or a blog. These help the students to have a clearer and more specific examples of what we are discussing.
Powerpoint presentation of class material is basically a good visual aid for visual learners as well as for auditory learners if the instructors add some explanations to the material that is presented. I also encourage the students to view the CDs that are included in their textbooks. There are a variety of exercises, games, etc that can be downloaded from the CD.
While i think powerpoints can be both useful and helpful in a classroom environment other forms of technology have proven to be more interesting to students. I like to incorporate online interactive modules as well as touch screen activities.
I often use excell rubrics to grade formal evaluaitons during practical kitchen courses.
