Being on time

This is one area that I personally think is critical,we are setting an example daily to our students as to what is expected from the majority of employers, and for this I think we must lead first so they can follow. Do you agree?

Hi Paul,
Thanks for sharing this great example of modeling behavior that transfers to students.
Gary

I agree, I have had classes where I was not on time every day and other classes where I made sure that I was early every day. When I watched the classes, I saw that the classes I was early for all the students showed up early after just two or three days of class. Just the opposite occurred when I showed up to class late!

In the field I loved being early because i could get a big jump on my day, the classroom is no different.

Yes, definitely. We lead the way and set the correct example for students to follow. We model what's happening in the real scenario, of which being on time or being early to work counts a lot. Being prompt and prepared to tackle the demands of the day says a lot about the integrity and commitment of a person.

A key element to any profession, I don't care how good you are, if you can not cover the basics then your career will be on a short list.

i could not agree more. too many times instructors demand a standard which they dont keep up themself

We must first set a good example, then set a clear expectation and hold evryone accountable for there actions.
Bernie

I agree, we need to set a good example

It Is very important to be on time. Setting good examples for our students& leting them know it is very important to employers as well.

Hi Marvin,
Well said. A simple concept but hard to grasp by many people and then they seem surprised when they don't do well in school or are fired.

This is an easy one!! If we pay for anything we want all we pay for! Example: If I go see a movie I must see the beginning to understand the plot. If I miss 15 minutes I feel left out. If I dont show up in time for a class, I show the instructor my lack of intrest. If I show up late for work I disrespect my employer and even my customers. The best way to show you care is to be on time for anything. You can never ever be to prompt

Not only are we setting an example we are preparing them to be on time at work.

I agree,In my class we have a product that must be ready at a certian time and if the students are late they usually do not have it ready in time

Hi John,
As you having been in the work world know the "soft skills" are just as important as the technical skills in terms of job retention. Be late will quickly lead to problems on the work site. Keep working on getting your students to pay attention to all aspects of their career preparation. You have much to offer them based upon your expertise and experience.

Coming from the automotive industry into the teaching field, I saw the challenges employers and customers face by employees being late or no showing up at all. I know one of the biggest grips is people being late. Students need to know the importance of being on time. It's an important character trait and as an instructor it is our responsibility to teach it.

If most fields "Time is money" and certainly in our field of repair it is important to stress being on time. Two ways of doing this is to always encourage or punish students for being late and NEVER being late yourself.

this is just like a chain,if you are on time they will be on time for the class, and later for they're jobs, and they will be a sample for they're workers, thats the chain, in the one we are the makers. thats why is important to be on time

I am with you on this one. Being on time is one of the most important work ethic skills we can pass on to them. By helping them develop their punctuality in class, not only will we help them keep a job in the future but it helps us set a positive, professional tone for the class now.

Yes I agree, we should definitely be on time. We should also be positive and motivated to teach our course, a warm welcome well most times bring a positive response from the students.
