Enthusiastic approach, Enthusiastic results

The importance of learning something new each day should be accompanied by an enthusiasm for the topic being taught.

Hi Gary,
I like this idea. There are a number of players that get to contribute to the success of the class as well as provide support. This should give encouragement to the students as the work through their lab assignments.
Gary

Hi, Dr. Meers,
A great source and sounding board for new approaches come from those who are my assistants in the lab. Often they provide the ideas for managing or teaching a group of more or fewer students or with a different age and maturity profile. Their ideas are refreshing and contribute to my own experience. Also, the assistant instructor gets to try out his/ her ideas under guidance. Everyone wins.-Gary O. Ackerman

Hi Renee,
Correct! They are seeing the instructor as a role model for what they want to be and by being enthusiastic about the field they will see the reasons why they should be excited about the training they are receiving.
Gary

The instructiors sets the mood for the class room environment. When the instructors approach is enthusiastic, the students can recognize the instructiors passion for the field of nursing , the student may discover his/her own enthusiastic passion for nursing.

Hi H Gelman,
Right you are. This is why it is so important for instructors to "read" their students and determine what type of reinforcement and support they need. This way they will know when a student is excited about the content but shows it in a different way. The same with instructors and how they show their dedication and excitement for their field.
Gary

We're all in agreement here - Enthusiasm will help students be motivated. We must keep in mind that there will be many personalities in the classroom. There will be "A" type personalities who are naturally upbeat and enthusiastic. There will also be more sober personalities who can show their enthusiasm by demonstrating their passion and knowledge of the subject matter.

Hi Susie,
Correct! We have to be excited for two reasons. One, our students deserve our best efforts each time the class meets, and two by acting excited we become excited ourselves and we self motivate ourselves into really enjoying teaching the class that day.
Gary

Sometimes it is challenging to be enthused when we teach the same class again and again but it is so important to be enthusiastic. We can't expect our students to be excited about the subject matter if we are not.

Hi Ricardo,
Right you are. This is what keeps them coming back with good attitudes and excitement about what they are learning.
Gary

Making the class interesting and relevant keeps the students focused, and wanting to come back to learn more.

Absolutely, when you are enthusiastic about something everyone around you gets caught up with your energy, and it inspires them to want to learn.

Hi Ron,
Isn't that a great feeling when you can convince students that what they thought was a boring course is of value to them and they can see application of the content to their lives? This is what keeps us coming back to the classroom.
Gary

I also agree 100%. You have to be enthusiastic about your subject matter especially when your students may come into the class with a pre-notion of "this is going to be boring". I love turning that around!

Hi Crystal,
Great attitude. This is what will keep you teaching and improving your course each time you teach it. As you say enthusiasm is contagious and by helping your students catch the vision you are becoming part of their future.
Gary

Enthusiam is contagious. How can I expect my students to be interested and value my information if I don't sound as though I am excited about it? I also try to teach
old material in new ways, keeping it fresh and lively. I continuously try to add supplimentary
information each time I teach the same class, and by gaining more knowledge I have found I truly become more enthused. Crystal Berntson

Absolutely need enthusiasm and interest in the subject. I find that even subjects I'm not particularly fond of, but have to teach, are of interest to some students. So I try to teach as if I'm excited by the information and have them think about it in other ways. I find I often get new insight into the subject too. I think they learn more and are more interested if I'm enthusiastic about it.
Kathy

I think the key is energy. An instructor who feels energized is easily able to connect with students, transfer the instructors energy to the students, and challenge students to learn in a lively environment.

Hi Wing,
You are right about students sensing excitement or the lack thereof. This is why I try something a little different each time I teach the course. This allows me to be creative plus I look forward to seeing how my new idea works out. It is fun for me and helps to keep me excited about going to class each time.
Gary

I would definitely have to agree. I think it's very important for an instructor to be able to present the material with an enthusiastic approach. It becomes difficult sometimes because you're teaching the same thing over and over again with each new incoming class, but the students can really pick up on it when you're enthusiastic about your subject.
