Jessica,
Simple, to the point and easily understood by students. This will reduce confusion and they will be ready to learn.

Two of the methods I use include practice and watching other instructors/presenters to learn from their styles.

I appreciate your style and agree the environment needs to stay on learning by positivity and sharing can increase confidence in learning.

Personal devices are a great way for people to learn; however, being fair and consistent may prove difficult if devices are not owned by every student or one or two forgot theirs or the device is not functioning. I think it best to follow the institution's policy and practice at the time. Any advice about not every student having a device or policy/practice?

What are some methods of determining the learning styles of each individual student?

I use the method of "tell them what you're going to teach them, teach them, then review what you just taught them" approach. Each point iterated with visual, written, and oral communication.

Theresa,
So true and this is why it is important of make sure the use of technology is a part of your professional development plan. Here at MaxKnowlege ad have a number of new courses coming on line this fall that will address the use of technology in classrooms.

technology needs more attention. I know I'm challenged in this area and it is the sign of the times to move into tech aged.

Tierany,
This is a good start to developing your instructional style. Keep looking for ways to improve and expand your instructional delivery and you will soon have a host of ways that your instructional style benefits students.

I would read carefully and ask good questions of my students.

Brian,
Great way to be responsive to the learning needs of your students. You are right you have adapt and adjust your instructional delivery to meet the different learning needs of your students.

I find that my instructional style changes from class to class. After the first week of instruction I am able to get a good grasp of the learning styles of the students. I have learned through experience to have a library of different methods of delivering instruction because of the different learners that I have in class. Being able to use these different methods has helped me to refine them to better enhance the learning of the students.

Use more visible tools and engage in more research.

I agree with you Nieva, This is very important as it makes no sense to be teaching and not being able to reach the students you are lecturing to. It all comes back to everyone learns differently and its our jobs to try to be as flexible as possible in order to reach as many students as we can.

Debra,
What are some specific ways you plan on doing this? Do you have access to a smart board at your school?

Request that they only use cell phones in an emergency

Use more technology in my teaching

Richard,
The majority of instructional strategies have been gained this way. Educators are good at reading about, seeing a demonstration of or observing others doing instructional things that can incorporated into their classrooms and labs. Once an educator has taken something refined to meet his or her needs another person takes that and goes even further so the technique keeps getting better and better. Keep sharing!

I steal unrepentantly. That is, I'm always on the lookout for new techniques or new ideas being used by other instructors. It may be small things, like how they field questions or include shy students. Or, it may be more concrete things, like ideas for different assignments.

Colleagues are great resources even (sometimes especially) if they are teaching in other fields.

Hi Robiar,
That is a great idea; especially if you can focus on the interactions of the students and the instructor.
