As a professional, you should always arrive early and be prepared when your students arrive. Try to always keep a smile on your face and don't bring any personal problems to work. Remain their Instructor-Do Not Become Their Friend! Be readily available should they have questions. Remain constant and fair (treat everyone the same).
A Role model Instructor should being on time for each lectures, lab work or clinic work.
always being approchable in student needs and not to be shy in tap their sholder to incouradge them to persiute further in the classroom before entering the world of the carrer they have chosen.
An instructor need to be a leader, in the classroom however need to understand who the followers are following.
Am I give the good example? What do I really want for my student to be when thay leave the classroom?
These are often the questions that I come to ask to myself and work my way to a good answers, and always try my best in put them in practice.
sometimes you are the only connection to how they are expected to conduct themselves in the work place because remember you are in your place of business, so if is ok for you to conduct yourself in a certain manner they feel it is ok for them as well.
I feel that showing that I care about the students (want them to succeed) helps them realize that it's okay to care about other people in their fields. For example, if they are going into nursing, they should care about their patients. If they are going into business, they should care about their clients or customers. By my showing them I care, it gives them permission to do likewise.
Hi Michael,
Being on time is critical for career success and the sooner students realize this the better their career will progress. By seeing you modeling the behavior of being on time the students will start to associate being on time with success and make it a part of their behavior.
Gary
From my personal experience being on time is one of the easiest and most important things to model to students. In our field (audio engineering) being on time is crucial to their success.
I hope to not only show my students the proper way to complete certain tasks, but also how to do them in a professional, courteous, and clean manner.
I agree, very important to outline objectivs. the use of a dry erase board is a good idea.
Professionalism is the important factor in my field. I show them how important it is by dressing appropriately every day, even though the school does not require it. I feel it helps the students realize the importance of who they represent. Also, always showing the importance of each of the students to each other, as well as to myself. I feel that there is no one more important than any other, so to have them respect each other they will need to respect me, so I show each of them the respect I would like in return. Detail orientation is also important. I teach them early on that details always make the completed project.
The most important thing to me is to always be prepared. Students can see if you are just trying to wing it. I like to put the days agenda on the board so they can monitor progress. It lets them know what is currently going on and what is left to be covered before the end of class.
I agree on starting class on time, being organizeed and know ahead of time what you are going to do. I go over student rules per the college and I go over MY rules for my class ( attendance, cheating, food and drink, etc.) I conduct myself in a professional manner and give respect and expect respect.
Hi Karen,
Good point. The social aspects of a career are as important as the technical skills. By giving them dialog as well as patient relation techniques you are giving them balance to their career development.
Gary
Knowing the material I am teaching, being in the classroom or lab early and be prepared for the daily lecture, be dressed appropriately for what the career field requires, and not use inappropriate language even though it is acceptable in the work place.
As a Dental Hygiene instructor, I feel that I can show the students how to show empathy towards the patients. If it's been 5 years since they've seen a dentist, you don't say '5years!'. You tell them "well I'm so glad you picked our clinic (office) to come to. We'll take good care of you" Part of being a role model is to give them the dialog they will need in speaking with patients.
Some of the ways I like to use are the following:
1. Dress professionally
2. Always have a positive attitude about learning, the class, and the school
3. Show the student how the material is directly relevant to their chosen field
4. Always being on time and ready to go before the class starts!
You can show them when things go wrong and
they will you need to stay calm, focesed
and do your job!
Hi,
I believe that we, as instructors, form an important part in the formation of student’s behavior.
We, the instructors are the real example of work ethic students will learn while in school. I personally try to be the best role model of my students by:
Starting and ending the class at assigned times. (Reliability)
Treating students with professionalism (Respect)
Some ways I can model behaviors that my students to succeed in their career field are being on time. If I model me being on time and starting class on time, then the students will most likely follow the example. Another is to discuss matters, maybe include a few people in answering some of the concepts that come up that way it is not putting certain people out. Sharing thoughts about information that is given can result in success in the field once they put it in progress.
Bring the right attitude to every on you meet
Be on time and dress properly
