I agree that PowerPoint has its place, but I think it is often overused. When using PowerPoint, it is good to stop after a few slides and do a quick activity. This could be something like having the students write down the three things they have learned on the last few slides or breaking the students into small groups and having them write a couple of questions relative to material on the slides and then ask those questions to other groups. I think some interaction makes the PowerPoint have more "staying power" than merely viewing slides.
Continue to improve my organization of course material
I can enhance my instructional style by utilizing diffrent instructional methods. I will become more productive by reaching all three learning styles, such as the auditory learner, the visual learner, and the kinethetic learner.
Staying organized and preparing lesson plans gives me a focused profile on achieving daily goals.
I need to show more excitement and add roll playing to my style.
I also used group activities, they help a lot
Hi Missy,
I agree with the use of technology in various forms in relation to both sharing of information and acquiring knowledge. I like your mention of caution because this has tripped up many individuals because of something they have posted in a public forum.

I use the current modes of social media to enhance motivation and apply knowledge to students lives outside of the classroom. This adds an element of realism within your classroom. However, if social media is touched on, there are rules that apply. Students need to be aware of what they put online because of their future job options. Nevertheless, students who use social sites properly can enhance their professional and personal experiences.
Hi Curtis,
This is one of my favorite ways of teaching as well. As you know the students really get into problem based learning because they can make applications and see relevancy.
Gary
I have found a great deal of benefit with creativity and more problem-based learning. Adult learners expect the predictable, but enjoy creativity. Problem-based learning allows my students to apply content by solving real business problems.
Hi Mark,
Congratulations on enjoying your students and teaching. I like your style probably because it is mine as well. We laugh and have fun but are very serious about our learning in the course. At the end it is a positive experience for everyone.
Gary
Hi Judith,
I like your three work description of your instructional style. These are words that say so much about how effective you are in working with your students and providing them support with their learning. I wish you much teaching success.
Gary
Hi Sandra,
You are doing a number of very good things in relation to your instructional delivery. Several things you might want to try would be to have the students role play, work on case studies and make presentations. I often create a group composed of four students. Each student is assigned a portion of the presentation. They do the research and each student presents for 5 or 10 minutes depending on the length of the class sessions. The panel sits behind a table in front of the class. By having three other people up there with them, sitting down not standing even the more shy students feel much more comfortable when they present.
So here are a few ideas for you to consider. Hope you find them helpful.

I love the use of humor in my classes. Most of the other teachers and new students know that my classes are "fun".
The students want to come to class !!
My instructional style has evolved over the years always in response to the teaching situation. I began as a full time teacher of 11 week courses where you had some time to develop rapport with student . Now I am an adjunct teacher in a 5 week course module. The two are very different The 5 week course is very content heavy and you have to use your creativity to give the students the variety they need to keep them interested. I do this in in a number of ways. For example, in a Marketing class covering brands, the students do a brain storming session in which they come up with new brand names for general items they pick from a basket (e.g. chips, bubble gum, cars). It doesn't take up much class time and everyone enjoys it and they learn. Overall my instructional style is knowledgeable, friendly, and motivational. I keep my students informed on a class by class basis what is expected of them, so that they don't fall behind, which can be a disaster in a 5 week Mod.
Hi David,
A very sound and professional way to approach the classroom. This is the foundation for the development of respect by both you and your students.
Gary
Hi David,
I agree with you. You will have more insight on how to target your instruction when you have this information.
Gary
Hi Sue,
Yes, it is and it gets a lot of communication going in the class. It is good to have some fun while still learning as it is with the games.

Hi Bruce,
Good list of ways to expand one's expertise as an educator. These opportunities will help one to achieve real growth.

I prefer to use things that students can relate to in my lecture. A lot of my students are more hands on learners and prefer to see examples. I have them role play some scenarios.
I try to stay away from powerpoint because they complain that it is boring, "Death by powerpoint." I call on students during lectures to ensure that they are paying attention. I also may throw in a pop quiz over the material that was just covered. This helps reduce the under the table texting.
I am open to new ideas and any pointers as to how I can develop and make it enjoyable for my students to learn. Please feel free to let me know what I can do to improve in the classroom. There's always room for improvement.
i feel that surveying the style and type of students i have in a given class will allow me to mutate my approach while effectively completing objectives
