Ryan,
Well said in relation to being a model for your students both as an educator and a representative of your profession. Your effort shows your students what they should be striving to develop in their own career.

Well I feel that being a model is the following:
1) some one the students can look up to for guidance
2) some one to set the standard for the industray that the students are preparing for
3) some one to show what professionism is and how it can help with every aspect of ones life
When I am in the class I am not 100% myself, reason being is when I am at work, were ever that my be, I give 150% as to what I do. This goes with doing the task at hand, professionism, as well as making sure all aspects of the job are done in a timley manner. Out side of the job I take it easy and relax my mind and body letting go of the role I play. This let me go into the class and be the best I can be and uphold my values to be the Model I have to be.
Veronika,
Passion for one's field and excitement about sharing it goes a long way in helping students to become engaged in the learning process. Good comments about how you approach the learning environment.

I think that a good way to help my students to succeed in career field is motivation. I am always trying to keep my students motivated and the best way is by me being excited and motivated about my profesion. I love what I do and I am sharing it with my students all the time. If I am happy and excited they are excited and they want to learn more. Positive attitude all the time.
I try to always remain professional when speaking with my students as well as lecturing. I'm open and honest with my students and I advise them from my personal experience.
VERONICA,
When you are prepared you set the tone for your students and you can approach the class with confidence you are ready to go.

Have all your material ready to start the class on time, dress in the field of study.
I agree with your statement. I believe the students take cues from us, and we have the ability to empower them and facilitate a healthy learning environment for them to grow and succeed.
You need to present your self the way that you would expect the student to act. If you comin to class 15 min late every day then you set a standerd that will follow you and your future classes. This shows then that they need to be prompt to work and always expect the same from you.
Thank you for the French lesson. Having everything in it's place is important in the machining field as well. We need to have all our equipment, measuring instruments, cutting tools close at hand. Be prepared. As the Scouts used to say.
Rick
Irina,
Right you are and we instructors need to remember we are always on stage no matter the school setting.

Irina, I totally agree 110%. Too many times instructors say one thing and do the other. We want respect but sometimes do not give it. Students observe our cues and based on what you put out, it helps guide them on how they will treat and react to you. I have always found that if you treat all with respect and as a person you care about that will show in the classroom and the student will take it with them.
Professional presentation is a unseparable part o classroom. Eveything in a teacher have a message to students. Through verbal/ non-verbal communication students internalize professionalism in the field of their interests.
Paula,
So important to the development of students. They get to observe a professional modeling the standard for their field. Having this information helps them with their career growth.

Arrive on time, model professionalism. As a nurse I can "show" students the type of nurse that provides safe and effective care to patients. I can also exhibit kindess.
Jennifer,
Good for you and your students. You are right about how important it is to be a model for your students. Many of them may never have had contact with someone from their field so you are setting the standard for conduct for them.

Many students have no real role models in their lives. As an instructor in the medical field, I don’t cuss around my students. I don’t smoke and frequently tell them about the organizations that will not hire smokers. I try to be the best person I can when my students are around.
They see enough negativity in the news. I try to be as positive as possible; which drives my co-workers up the wall.
Jeremy,
You are practicing a host of modeling factors that show the students where they will be at the end of the course if they follow your example. This helps them to see that standard that they need to work toward.

ANDREA,
So true and so important. We are setting the standard for our field so we need to illustrate that standard in all of our conduct and interactions.

Vance,
Not only are you the instructor but you are a good resource for the students since you have gone through the same course and hold the certificate as a result of your success. You can help them to see the value of the content because you have lived it.
