Instructional Professsionalism is respecting my peers and students,by being a good role model and maintaining appropiate relationships. Communicating properly by using proper language and terminology. Using education and experience to motivate others to learn. Maintaining organization, enthusiasm and passion about the subject.

A role model who provides a professional image through a teaching environment which motivates and manages students to learn through their individual learning style. A friend, not a pal, who is supportive and encouraging during the good and bad times.

Instructional professionalism is the the one which including modeling ,managing and motivation

Tabitha,
Good definition. It speaks to being a life long learner and effective communicator of knowledge with a human side.

I define it as the use of your personal experience and education, in a professional setting. You have to put aside your own person views in the classroom sometimes, and should be willing to be taught in the process.

Instructional professionalism involves putting students first. Careful planning to deliver content in the most understandable format is a must. Starting class on time and being accessable to students sets a professional tone for the whole class.

Marty,
Good advice for all instructors. We need to bring our very best to the classroom each and every time we meet with our students.

Instructional Professionalism has to do with the way you communicate your subject to you students. It has to encourage them to want to learn what the subject. It also has to be interesting so that they can stay focused. If they are waiting for you to prepare, you lost them before you started.

Douglas,
Right on in terms of what an professional instructor really show be like. The human factor has to be an integral part of an instructor's personality in the classroom.

Cory,
Your definition is right on in terms of being defined by you the instructor. This definition needs to be kept foremost in our minds as we approach the classroom.
Gary

The ability to be a role model and earn the respect and trust of my students. To share my knowledge with them in a proper but interesting way to the best of my ability.

Instruction professionalism consist of all elements that make the learning envornment positive, productive and properly managed. The instructor dress the part and is competent in the course of instruction as well as possesses the ability to creatively educate students so they can understand. Professionalism is greater than a shirt and tie, a very uptight personality and the ability to use big words.

Define it? As in Merriam Webster definition, or how do I portray it in my classroom?

To be sure, there is an accepted code of conduct for an instructor in a classroom, and this code of conduct may vary classroom by classroom, but, ultimately, I say instructional professionalism is the integrity to carry oneself in such a manner as to express the highest level of career professionalism to which the student must eventually adhere, while simultaneously adapting one's teaching style so that the students gain as much technical knowledge from the course as possible.

I would define instructional professionalism as displaying a positive attitude, looking the part for ones specific are of instruction, and staying on task for what is on the daily agenda for the given class.

I define instructional professionalism as embodying the skills, soft or hard, necessary to be successful in a particular subject matter/field.

Toni,
Right you are in terms of talking and walking the talk and walk. This sets the stage for the development of respect between the students and instructor.

This in my mind is walk the walk and talk the talk. Meaning if you expect excellence from your students as well as your other instructors you will need to model the performance, attitude, and overall expectations.

I define Instructional Professionalism as being prepared to instruct your class, being able to relate relevant stories and experience.

To me, instructional professional means to demonstrate the ideals you expect your students to live up to. Being on time, organized, professional appearance, positive attitude, folow up with things that are requested of you. We can not expect them to be professionals if they are not given role-models to emulate.
