Developing as an instructor
I like to get feedback from students. I periodically ask them during the course if there are areas they feel needs improvement in order to help them learn. I know that they take an end of the course evaluation, but many times they breeze through this because they are finished with the course and want to move on to the next. Also, asking them during the course helps me to be able to make changes immediately to help them learn the content and be successful.
Hector,
I like this approach and use it with my classes. The reason is that I get ongoing feedback just like you get so you can make any needed adjustments before the course is completed. This brings about course improvement in real time.

I too started implementing course evaluations after I finish a topic. It has helped in understanding if I failed to educate the students on the subject matter. I also see it as an unbiased critic so that I can improve.
Robin,
You make a good point about student feedback. I like you get feedback throughout my courses because I don't find value in the end of the course evaluations due to the reasons you list. So by having them comment on a completed assignment, activity or quiz I get a candid and clear idea about how they perceived the work that they completed and the value they received from it.
