I agree students love real life experiences any time that I can bring in a guess speaker or take the students on a field trip helps them see the full goaled they are trying to reach.

taking student out in the field that they will be in

Shannon,
The environment is a critical link in helping students to get settled into the course and be prepared to learn. The more comfortable they are the more they will feel supported by their school and instructor.

The learning environment is probably the most important aspect of the student actually learning. They students should enjoy coming to school and be in a warm, welcome and comfortable environment. If they come to school and it's dirty, run down and not pleasant they may not want to come back. I know that I would rather learn in a clean, bright, open and welcoming environment.

Lauren,
Like your style because students do need a change of environment and subject matter flow. By taking them to a new environment you are helping them to reset their brains and thought process.

In interior design courses, students spend hours and hours in the studio completing projects. In fact, it is not uncommon to have students spend the night under their drafting tables! While there are few places other than a studio that can accommodate the needs of the students, it is helpful to get students out of the studio whenever possible. For example, if I do lecture, which is rare, I do it outside of the studio, either in a group meeting space or cafe if possible.

I has an affect on learning and obsorbtion

It would show how things are beyond classrooms ,in another word how real life ,or I should say how real work field will look like. It gives a clear picture of the field students will be in after graduation. Students will also learn that classrooms are just a start step or an introductory of the field they will enter ,learning continues way beyond graduation.

Edwin,
Finding and creating an environment in which students are comfortable and can stay engaged is critical. Sounds like you have found ways to make this happen as you move your students forward in their career development.

The learning environment can be an exceptional tool to help visualize what a student reads in a textbook. Example: Seeing a 'live' videocast from an operating room where the students can ask the surgeon questions.

The environment means so much to a student's learning effectively.
I find that If I have students sit in a classic seating style classroom and I stand at the front of the room and lecture, I don't get through to as many students as when I change the seating to a circle pattern and sit in a seat along with the students. Everyone is face to face and a conversation style of learning can be implemented. I find that if I am talking with the students as opposed to talking to them I get more of a "buy in" on the subject. I can also inject more learning objectives into conversations that get heard.
I take my students outside on nice days and I have a day in which everyone brings a pillow to relax where ever they want in the classroom to listen to new ideas that are being introduced.
I believe this builds a safe and unintimidating atmospere that students can learn in.

Sandra,
Well described in terms of the two essential components of the learning environment. They both need to be reviewed and adapted as necessary to make sure they are supportive to the learning process.

Raymond,
This is very important because if you do not have the full attention of your students it is difficult for them to stay engaged.

The learning environment is a very important part of the education process. Having an environment that is conducive to learning is a challenge that is worth taking on. I feel that the learning environment needs to be looked at from both the physical aspects and the psychological aspects as well.
The physical aspects that need to be considered include the set up of the class room & the temperature of the class room. Remembering to walk through the class room and look around from all angles to see if there are any visual obstructions or distractions, is one way to ensure a better learning environment.
The psychological aspects to consider include; the general aura of the room (is there an accepting attitude of the faculty member and the students, or is it closed)

It allows students to relax and become more focused on the lesson.

I teach music production, so it is important that the tools the students will be using to create music are effectively demonstrated in the classroom. Technical difficulties can slow the class down and cause students to lose confidence in the instructor.

The learning environment is really important. when it comes to having a variety of things you could do with your students such as field trips, watch videos related to the subject, movies, presentations, etc.. but also the environment in the classroom must be comfortable for the students because they need to concentrate and pay attention in order for all of this to work.

Ninoska,
Good list of how to use the different components of instructional delivery to motivate students as well as keep them engaged. This is what the learning environment should be about.

DEBORAH,
This is a very good point that needs to be understood by the students. The clinical setting is where application is made and critical thinking is used. The students need to see the value of the content being offered in relation to how relevant it is to their career growth and success which leads them into the clinical setting and patient care.

The learning environment must vary in order to be successful and maintain your students engaged with the subject you should have activities, field trips and guest speakers so they keep their enthusiasm for the class. Also group projects for me it's a good idea because they get to work and meet their peers at the same time.
