Sheila,
Well said and an important point to be reinforced. To offer less than the most current equipment and content is to short change the students.

Louise,
An environment that supports learning is a must. Often instructors don't review the environment before class. They need to do a walk through and try to see the classroom/lab through the eyes of students so any adjustments can be made.

I think the learning environment students have to practice skills is crucial to their success. It is frustrating for them and their instructors when equipment isn't working correctly or proper supplies aren't available. I think students in any health care profession greatly benefit from having the opportunity to learn in a simulated clinical lab environment.
The environment needs to be conductive to learning above all. You want your students to be comfortable there, but to not forget that they are in a school. The classroom should also be appropriate for the particular class currently in there. If you share classrooms with classes from other programs, it may be a good idea to bring in some visual aids specific to your program for your class.
The learning Environment is one of top critical factors. Having been an instructor in several different collegiate & vocational-type environments, I Know 1st hand that modern, well supplied supportive and conductive classrooms/meeting rooms etc. has a very POSITIVE effect on student learning and very benificial to the insructors as well because when all the students environmental NEEDS are provided for the students are 10x's more likely to focus on the class content, instructor, and be much more motivated to return to THAT CLASS AGAIN!!!
A comfortable environment with appropriate materials needed for learning can facilitate the student's attention on the course content. Louise Lotte July 3, 2013
The learning environment effect plays a major role on the classroom environment. It only takes one person to ruin it for the entire class. Teachers must take control and be the leader so that the entire class environment is maintained to a positive level.
A intrumental learning environment can have a positive effect on learning.
Mariah,
The more you can do this the easier the transition is going to be for your students because they will have learned and worked in a setting that is reflective of their future workstations.

I teach cosmetology so i want my area or class room to feel like an actual salon...to give the students of that feel for everyday life!
Tom,
This is the world they are going to be entering so the more experience they have in this world the better. Plus, these types of experiences help them to see the value of the course content being offered.

I want my students as close to the action as possible. As they would at any sporting event or concert only in this case their ticket costs thousands of dollars and is infinitely more important.
The learning environment tills the soil for the seed being planted.
Richard,
Relevancy and application are two elements that students strive to have in their courses. When you can offer both through your instruction and activities you have increased the value and satisfaction of the course to the students. You are on the right track with your efforts.

The learning environment plays a crucial role in the learning experience. If a student feels like they are getting what they want out of a class, then there ability to learn and retain information becomes easier. A student who feels like they are getting the real world experience in the classroom will participate more actively in the class and will receive the information more readily than someone who feels like they are in a class that is not giving them what they feel they need. I always try and provide a realistic experience for my students so they can see a practical use for the information that they are receiving.
Alan,
The more reality you can bring into the learning setting the more effective you are going to be in helping your students to see what and where they will be working when they complete their program. There is more to your field than just holding a fuzzy puppy and yet for many students that is all they can focus on.

Graham,
Reality is missing in the career selection process of many students. Yes, the kitchen is hot that is why it is called cooking. Your comments made me smile because so many students have been watching too many cooking shows that do not show the reality of what a chef does. Another area is that of CSI. We have a lot of students going into criminal justice so they can be CSI specialists and solve weird crimes in one hour or less.

I believe that it does paly apart in the process the environment in which students learn has a lot to do with if the are able to gain the knowledge that is being delivered.
It plays a huge role. As a Vet Asst instructor I make sure that students are bringing animals (there own) and make it feel when we do labs that we are in a real Animal Hsopital.
As a chef instructor the Learning Enviroment Effect plays a huge role, as basic as it may sound a statement I hear more than most is "Chef its so hot in here", my response is " Yes its a kitchen." Sounds basic but it allows me to go into detail on what may be lined up in the future, for a the culinary students when working in a hot kitchen that they just relized for the first time, also the labs are no where near as hot as a real kitchen that I then give examples of.
Ruth,
Well said. A supportive and comfortable environment where students feel accepted is the foundation upon which the course will be built.
