When doing a demonstration in my classroom I make sure I arrive to class early to ensure I have my work area prepared and well stocked for service I am preforming. This helps to instill in students the importance of having everything they need prior to beginning procedure, which will make them feel more confident and set them up for success with their clients.

It is important to have all supplies available for students during clinic services. By having a clean and well stocked laboratory students will feel prepared to preform service.

Jamie,
Right you are and this is why we need to look at the learning environment through the eyes of our students. This way we can make the setting as supportive as possible.

I feel that the learning environment serves a big role in the students learning. If you have many distractions in the classroom, they will not be listening to you and to what you are saying.

The learning environment is critical to optimal learning. When a student feels physically and emotionally comfortable, they are able to focus on new information and application of that information more effectivly.

Terrance,
Well said and right on target. This is how we should approach our instructional planning and delivery and the result will be as you say a win win for everyone.

As an instructor in the dental field, a learning environment that creates a "real life" experience for the student allows them to learn how to successfully function in a clinical setting. Students need to be able to become proficient in their skill sets so as to integrate effectively into their new employer's practice. The experience of operating in an effective learning environment provides the student with the confidence level to accept new challenges knowing they can succeed. It is a "win" for the student and a "win" for the employer.

Michael,
Right you are because the closer you can simulate the career area in the real world the easier the transition will be for students completing their program and going to work. They will know what to expect.

The learning environment is important in order for the students to learn their course.

Working in medical it is important for the students to be in a classroom that has various equipment and charts of bodies in order to have an environent of a medical office. It reinforces the teaching.

Mary,
I use both of these techniques and find them very effective. The more application of content that is made the more value students associate with the course.

Monica,
This is so true. They need to feel comfortable and accepted in the learning environment if they are going to be engaged.

Lea Ann,
Students like change of pace and variety in instructional delivery and you are doing such with this model. This helps set the stage for maximum engagement through out each class session.

Helps students to practice hands on situations while they use each other as patients. Role playing is a good way for them to retain their skills.

It's crucial. The classroom is so important for learning, if students don't feel inspired and comfortable there they won't ever want to study or be motivated to finish their program

The proper learning environment can help keep students motivated and excited to continue learning. I keep things moving by alternating between lectures and hands on activities.

Kelleen,
The closer to the real world the better. This way the students will see why they are being taught what they are and their transition to the work world will be easier.

Our lab is set up as a real life OR. It provides our students with a very realistic surgical enviornment.

The learning enviroment must always be condusive to learning. Sitting arrangements, room temperature, and acoustics are importants enviromental factors that can hinder learning.
