The syllabus is the instructors bible. All of the lessons and daily goals are based off the syllabus, thus, the more comprehensive the syllabus, the easier it will be to create lesson plans for the course.
I have to agree. I find that I get off course without the right guidlines for me to teach, and I find that my students aren't prepared for class if they don't have the guidlines. It makes for a very poor class if both the students and teacher don't know what guidlines to follow.
It is very important to have a well prepared syllabus as this will give the students knowledge of what the course is about and prepare them for the upcoming classes.
I think it is important to provide a well-prepared syllabus to students as a means of providing a transparent agenda for the quarter associated with specific learning objectives that are attainable for students.
It gives students clear guidelines and expectations for the course and helps the instructor to stay on task and meet the course objectives.
It gives students detailed reqirements and outlines, and grading scale with this information the student the sudent should a understand what is required for that course.
A well prepared syllabus means there are little to no questions to what will be expected in the class. It is a guide for both students and instructors and, like stated in the model, a contract between the two.
It gives the student a overview of what is going to happen step by step. It also allows the student to be able to go back and review what happened that day or to prepare for what will happen.
A well prepared syllabus, I think is a must. If it is organized and easy to read, you and the students will be on the same page starting on day one.
It is imporant to develop a well prepared syllabus in order for instructors to be able to provide their students with the most information possible in regard to the the course being taught by the instructor. It provides students with a sense of direction and an idea of all of the information that will be covered within the course. The students will not be surprised by information that is presented within the course and will be prepared for each lecture and activity that they will encounter. It is important that all instructors are able to give their students a syllabus to follow throughout each course in which they are enrolled in. A syllabus will act as a guide for the course. Well prepared syllabi are organized, neat, and easy to understand.
I believe the syllabus is not only important as a contractual document and also to clearly outline the course for students, but it also helps ME stay on track as an instructor. I find that the objectives section of my syllabus gives me a place to double-check that I am teaching on-topic.
Having a well prepared syllabus allows the student to rest assure that they are in a class in which all is planned. That the instructor has a game plan and that all necessary components of the class will be covered.
The Syllabus is a contract between the student and instructor so it allows everyone to recognize the course in a serious matter in which all items should be covered and learned.
I also believe if the Syllabus is well prepared there will not be any questions later on the grading or on the requirements on what is necessary to complete the course.
Having a well prepared syllabus help you focus and on tract to what you will teach your student as well as what are the expectations from them
The use of a well - prepared syllabus will make the students more comfortable in the classroom and also show them that you are concerned about their success

I've always looked at the syllabus as the road map that lets the students know exactly what the instructor is expecting out the them and let's them know what is required in the course (how many exams, papers, etc ...).
Hi Elayne,
Right you are. This is why a well prepared syllabus can head off many problems but letting the students know the expectations, requirements and policies of the course. You can build from there because you have reduced the mystery of what it takes to pass the course.

It will save you a lot of grief in the long run if a student has everything spelled out. The student can't come back to you and say I didn't know such and such was required for the class.
A well-prepared syllabus sets the tone for an efficient classroom. It should include all requirements for the class, accessiblility of the instructor outside of class, and grading procedures.
I believe this sets the tone for the class. Students can easily look at the requirements in order to be prepared for daily topics as well as activities, quizzes, and exams. I am in my first year of teaching college students, and I know it takes much time and effort to prepare a detailed and informative syllabus.
It gives the students a clear understanding of expectations and content to be covered as well as how many and what types of assignments and tests there will be. The students seem more comfortable when there are no surprises.
