The learning environment needs to mirror the instructional process. In my field we have service manuals that need to be observed. The student should have access to these and ensure he is using them and not taking shortcuts.
Hi Ana,
Great example of dedicated professionals wanting to provide the best for their students. I commend you for your efforts because it is a same for someone to go through a training program where they gain the knowledge but don't see the real world context. Once the enter the field the find that the real world is not like the classroom so they don't want to stay in the field. Happens more than it should.

As a Nursing Instructor the learning environment should be like the hospital the students will visit. This decreases anxiety and assists them feeling more comfortable during the required skills.
when the learning enviroment is similar to the real enviroment it helps with instructing the students in rthe proper ways of operateing equipment and real day to day issues that can happen
I am a nursing instructor and simulating what the students will find in the real world is key. This can often be a very challenging task as we know that medical equipment and supplies are quite expensive. As nurses our faculty is very creative and we look for alternative and less expensive ways to simulate healthcare settings.
It ultimately determines how well the student will learn. If the environment is conducive to their learning style then they will learn well. Also it will give them an idea on what the work environment may actually be like.
Hi Lilliana,
This really helps the students to see how they can transfer their skills and knowledge from college to the real world. Also, the adjustment is not as great because they know what to expect in the work place.

Hi, I agree with the environment in which the students will be learning. They need to get as close to the reality of their actual field. For example, the lab that is used for the students as Medical Assistants is very nice and pretty much exact to what you will find in the real medical field. The students will feel at least a little more comfortable when they actually begin working in their field.
Hello Jill,
That is a great solution to an awful situation. It sounds like you made lemonaide out of lemons. I am always in agreement to find the best solution to aid my students in the learning process.

The learning environment effect plays a huge role on the learning process. If a student is not confortable or feels out of place they will not be inspired to learn. In most cases they will actually shut down. I always try to welcome each of my students to my class, and watch for signs of discouragement. If I see any of these I try to stop the process and redirect them.
I also agree with making sure that the students have a comfortable learning environment. The learning environment if definately an important aspect in the students learning. When they are uncomfortable they start getting fidgety and then they are not paying attention and the retention of information drops considerably.
I agree. Aside from these, the instructors should explain to the students what to expect in the real world so that the students will not be surprised once they start to apply what they learned in school. The fear of the unknown will hinder learning.
I think the environment should set an example of excellent conditions to make learning easier. Things are not always perfect in the real world.
to show relevancy in the course study materials, a thorough research with what employers are looking for, is included in the classroom and on the syllabus.
it brings excitement, a strong attention span, classroom involvement and a strong desire to succeed.
I worked in a new school and we had problems with the air conditioning and heating system and it was awful. The students had a very difficult time staying awake and focusing. Some days we went outside because it was a better learning enviornment!
The role the learning environment plays in the instructional process is important. The learning environment should be conducive to learning. THe classroom should be well lit, cool temperature, appropriate noise level. There should be adequate space for each student and their belongings. All of this should make for a comfortable learning environment in which the student can focus on course content.
Hi Jerry,
Even though you are teaching in a college environment you can set up your mode of operation to simulate the work setting. This means you hold the students to deadlines, high standards and a level of personal commitment that is needed for career success. Something I use a lot are case studies and problem solving situation. I can't set up my classroom to be exactly like the work setting but I can conduct the classroom in much the same way as the field will operate.

The Learning Environments plays a very important role in the instructional process. I feel that it should mimic the work setting that the student will be working in when they complete the training. (i.e. having the student call in when they are not going to attend class for the day, having them dress for there work setting).
Although it very hard to completely mimic the work Environment in a school setting. How can I make my class room more realistic?
The learning environment should enhance the learning process. Basics, such as proper lighting, a good sound system without ambient noise and good sight lines to the instructor or teaching board are absolutely necessary. But if the environment can also encourage participation and active involvement on behalf of the student (such as lab space), all the better.
