Hi Alexander,
Right you are. That is why we have to have classrooms and labs that reflect the field that the students are training to enter. If we do then the transition for the students from school to the work world will be much easier.
Gary
For the business classroom it is important that the learning environment mirror as close as can be accomplished, the business world. You are trying to provide them with the understanding but applying is in a real world situation.
The learning envirionment plays a key role for the student in that it demonstrates professionalism for the carreer that they are trying to obtain. When they are working in a professional environment in school they will demand that in there carreer.
Realistic training to the extent that it can be provided in the classroom is a definate must. The more realistic, the more valid challengs provided to the student. This in turn will hopefully stimulate more thought provoking questions from students.
I agree with the overall tought process of creating a classroom that most resembles a real job. In all of the education these were the best and the most popular teachers. The others were considered boring and out of date.
good learning environment well inhanse the learning experance
Learning environment is important in the learning process.. Because the student will not be able to learn if there are distractors before the class. So it should be comfortable, conducive to learning, and the course material should be ready to be presented.
I certainly agree with making the link between the materials and relevance in one's area of study, but I must admit that this can be challenging at times depending on the subject matter.
The learning environment is as important as the effectiveness of the instructor. Without a comfortable learning environment the students are going to have a difficult time focusing and learning. It is important that the learning environment is inviting to learners and teaching friendly. The students should feel comfortable with their surroundings and motivated not intimidating. For example, I teach clinical in the hospital setting and my teaching environment with a new group would be medical surgical floor rather than an intensive care unit. We can gradually move up to what is comfortable for the student. It is also important to assess the level of the class or group. Putting the student in an uncomfortable environment can end up in failure to teach and learning for the student.
It allows the student to understand how his work area is going to be, at the school i teach our labs are full blown studios in which everything is the "professional standard" so there are no tricks to what to expect when in a Real World studio.
Hi Catherine,
Good points. We can not say enough about the need for students to feel accepted by the instructor and comfortable in a new class. Once the student is settled into the class then he/she is willing to become more involved in the discussions and activities.
Gary
we set the pase for the students.as they say first impression is lasting.students will also study the instructor, the way we carry ourselfes as well as weather we follow thru on things we talk about.
I agree with Mr. Simono. I teach fashion design classes and believe that it is extremely important that the learning environment is set up to simulate a working fashion studio. I make sure to relate what is happening in the classroom to the "industry."
I believe the learning enviroment greatly effects learning. If students are distracted by the temperature in the room they will not be pay attention to the lesson plan. Not having the proper equipment can also impact teaching and ultimately contribute to poor learning outcomes from students.
Charles,
I agree. All of my projects are based on real-life scenarios. They have to apply what they learned by completing tasks they would have to complete in a business environment.
Cathy
The learning environment plays an important role in the instructional process. Classrooms that have computers with Internet access are more interactive. Students can research material for projects while the teacher is present. Teachers can send the students to websites and have debates based on their research. Students can take interactive quizzes and post answers to questions in forums.
My students create business plans in Small Business Management. I provide them with a foundation each class and then they conduct research, based on what we discussed in class. I meet with each group and answer their questions. I also offer suggestions. Through the use of our portal the students post sections of their business plan. The students are required to critique two other students’ work. I believe through the use of technology and group activities students are more engaged in the classroom. Students feel comfortable discussing material when they are in a more relaxed atmosphere.
The learning environment should be a place that is conducive to learning. Whether it is a physical classroom or a virtual one, it should be organized, and the resources or materials they need should be readily accessible. Students should be comfortable, and able to focus on learning the course content without distractions.
Hi Holly,
You got that right. An environment that is supportive and comfortable really helps to get the students settled in and ready for the upcoming course. This helps the students to be forward focused and ready to learn.
Gary
It is huge! Some people did not have a good learning/school program the first time around so most often the environment and make or break a person desire to finish their education.
Students must be comfortable and condfident the first day. It is important that they don't feel intimedated or unassure
