Syllabus

When it comes to a syllabus I always prefer to write my own rather than going off of a generic syllabus. Has more meaning that way.. Just my 2 cents..

I like to adapt the class syllabus. It is imperative to make expectations known; there should be no surprises!

You wouldn't take a road trip without a map and a customized plan, why would you attempt to teach a class without one? There is no such thing as a "generic" class. why would you use a "generic" lesson plan?

I use the generic for my outline & customize it. I add little inspirational quotes & reminders throughout.

Shane,
You make a good point because you have to personalize the syllabus in order to show the students you really "own" the content as well as the expertise to teach them.

The college does provide one and I work off of it.. Either way is good as long as your personalize it..

Shane,
I agree if you can have your own. If not and your college provides you one you need to be able to personalize it so you can impart your approach to the classroom and course requirements.
