They are important because they help you organize the materials, content and instructional styles needed for an specific course. In a way they will foolproof the delivery and enhance the teaching/learning experience in the classroom.

Hi Wendy,
Good strategy for keeping you moving forward throughout the material and on topic. We all need to make sure we are organized and prepared when we enter the classroom.

I absolutely agree. Especially for new teachers, preparation is essential. Instead of "checklists" per se, I use bullet points in my notes. This helps me give an overview of what I'm going to cover in class that day, and helps me stay on track. Plus, if for some reason, you have time left over at the end of class, you can just flip the page and continue on. The worst teachers I ever had were either unprepared or read from an outline.

Albert, yes planning and prep is so essential. Consistently being unprepared will show. Student surveys are presented in most environments and students have an opportunity to express and note observed professionalism or lack thereof. Unfortunately at this stage is too late for an instructor to recover. So it is most important for instructors to seize the moment by being at times prepared and ready to meet the challenges of the day.

Early and comprehensive planning is so important for instructional success because the instructor plays the role of Model, Manager, and Motivator.

I find that when I am well prepared the class can move in many different interesting directions and still be "on target".

Hi Annmarie,
Good point about being prepared. By entering the classroom prepared and ready to teach you are sending a powerful signal that you care about the students and want them to be successful. This then puts the burden of success on them as they have to put for the required effort since you have done your prep work.

Students notice when you are unprepared. It makes the instructor appear disorganized and they lose confidence in your ability to teach the subject. It also helps students to know what they will be doing in the days to come and to have the opportunity to study ahead so they don't feel lost.

It is very necessary to plan comprehensively for each because you want to make sure sure all points for each class are covered. With me, the first day cause a little anxiety even though I have been teaching awhile. Careful planning helps to ease the tension and with new students they will have many questions that need to be answered. So even though questions may lead away from the main subject careful you can use your notes to return on track.

As an instuctor, being prepared and organized sets the tone for the class. My ability to teach the material to the students is greatly impacted by my planning prior to the first class.

Early and comprehensive planning is essential to provide the opportunity for the students to maximize their learning. Preparation and planning insures the students understand the goals of the course, content is fully developed and the correct formats based on content are used for the instructional material. Early and comprehesive planning also instills confidence in the instructor.

By planning ahead you look at the whole picture and anticipates all the possibilities. It lets you set the climate and take control of the class. Also, It helps you organize and prevents you from missing a topic.

Hi Rudy,
Right you are. It is too stressful not to be prepared. Walking into a class at the last minute without preparation invites a train wreck for a class. Instructors need to spend the time it takes to be prepared each and every time the class meets.

Comprehensive planning for instructional success is important in order to lay a blue print for the course including goals and objectives that must be met to ensure success for the student.

The objectives of a course add to the goal/s of the curriculum for a program. Testing for Certification or licensure follows completion of the program. Comprehensive planning is essential to ensure that appropriate and complete material is taught along with the necessary skills for passing the certification tests and for successful transition into that field of employment. Early planning provides more time for review, correction and the addition of instructional material. A prepared teacher can more easily concentrate on presentation and student feedback.

Teaching is difficult and challenging. Every class presents an eclectic mix of students to educate. To reach all of them, careful and strategic planning & preparation are essential. Early planning allows the instructor to get familiar with the material, devise ways to deliver it, and develop activities to reinforce the information. Early preparation allows time to iron out any wrinkles before stepping into the classroom. Once there, the students need to see an organized, prepared instructor who is ready to teach, comfortable with the subject material, and has a clear plan for them to learn. When you practice being prepared, you will be prepared to practice.

It is important to shwo your students you are organized and that you only have his/her best interests in mind, in the effective teaching process.

it helps in being prepared in advance, knowing topic and subject matters prior to actual classroom teaching.
