Hi Mike,
How do you make sure you are prepared for your class? Thank you for your input on this because I know it will be of value to other instructors.
Gary
Hi Peter,
I like your strategy for getting into the course content. Going beyond the basics is a very professional way of helping your students take their learning to that level as well.
Gary
Hi Henry,
You make a good point about student involvement. This is critical if you are going to get them to buy into the course content and be successful.
Gary
Hi Ruby,
Good approach. This way you are ready to go but can change anything that you need to as a result of your previous experience with the course content.
Gary
Hi Ruby,
Two key words--early and comprehensive make the difference in instructional delivery. They both need to be followed for teaching success.
Gary
Hi Tara,
So true. Without it the "ship" will only go in big lazy circles with no destination in mind.
Gary
Hi Nancy,
I am with you. Planning early is essential. I have been in the copy room many times when an instructor will come in in a panic because he/she needs to copy something that they are going to teach in 3 minutes. That is not worth the stress.
Gary
Hi Patricia,
Good point. I don't know about you but it seems that my Plan A almost never works so I better have a very good Plan B and sometimes I have to go with Plans C-D-E and F.
Gary
Early planning is beneficial to the instructor because it leaves time to reflect on the course outline and tweak it before deploying it. Thorough planning benefits both instructor and students (really the same thing, isn't it?). The student's often-unasked questions about goals and objectives are answered, allowing them to concentrate on learning instead of worrying. The instructor benefits by having critical course material rehearsed so that his mind is free to sort of follow the lecture from a third party perspective and observe students so that the delivery can be adjusted on the fly to keep the class engaged.

Early comprehensive planning is probably the most important thing you can do as an instructor. 1)if you are not ready with material you most likely lose the students attention in the first few minutes.2)Students are smart and they know if you know the material or you don't know the material. If the students realize that you are struggling to get through a subject they will lose faith in you. 3)Early is the key word in this question the earlier you can be prepared the more time you will have to tweak solidify how you approach the topic to reach more students. 4) The earlier you are prepared will also save you time or you can spend more time answering questions or explaining the topic more.
It provides you with a method to be proactive and flexible. This leads to instructional success.
When you plan your class early with comprehensive training you have time enough to prepare and make changes in your form of instruction you might have enough time to try different format
Yes it has help answer questions students may have before class starts.
Because i would like to be prepared for my class.
Is there truly success in instructional planning? I would like to look at it more of reaching a goal of building a relationship with the material. When blueprinting for a class one needs to understand more than the material that one is presenting. The ability to go beyond the basic planning to the core of what you are trying to represent can give you the foundation for better built house of instruction.
Early and comprehensive planning very important to promoting students' academic progress. Keeping the students involved thru experience based stories to begin a lesson, keep students alert by random calling on students and using visual aids can attract the students who learning style is visual.
This approach assisted me in preparing to teach the same sudject in another term. I keep all newspaper articles, notes from my career, handouts from speakers at my professional organization, etc. I review each binder when I am preparing to teach the class in the next term.
Early and comprehensive planning is important because it help the students understand what they are expected to learn and what specific activities they will be expected to perform to enhance their learning process.
I Believe that comprhensive planning is very important It gives you a sense of direction and guidelines to manage your class.
Planning is important to both instructor and student. Preparation is the key to a successful class. Knowing what you are going to present and making sure you have all the required resources shows the students that you value their time.
Planning early enough also allows you to be more creative in how you want to present the lesson. It allows you time to arrange for a speaker, prepare a demonstration or plan a field trip.
