Arlinda,
Good point about accountability in terms of showing accreditators what is covered in the syllabus. A clear record of course content and requirements.

Students can use the course syllabus to refer back to during class. This gives them an outline of what is going to be expected and when. They will understand the course objectives and what the next instructional lesson will consist of.

Will help you as well as your students to stay on track with the course goals and objectives in a timely manner to fulfill state and/or federal accreditation and/or license requirements for the chosen career path.

The success of your class hinges on a well prepared syllabus. A well prepared syllabus enables the instructor to appear organized, confident and current on the content.

The students need to know what the class will be covering and my expectations for the class. I have learned that my students really read the syllabus and they will make sure I am following it.

Mirela,
Good points about a well prepared syllabus. Do you prepare the syllabus for your course or is one provided to you by your college?

Ezra,
Your comments about the value of a well prepared syllabus is right on. The syllabus is the guide for the course and helps to answer questions and keep students informed as to where the course is going. They need this information from the very beginning of the course so they can do their own planning for course success.

Lauren,
Good way to start the course out. This information also helps the students to get settled into the course and develop a feel for the expectations and rigor that is going to come in the next few weeks. As a result their anxiety is reduced.

A good syllabus is a great help for both the students and teacher: It will give the course a clear structure to follow and will set a standard for the students' expectations regarding content, policies, behavior and goals.

So the students can have a guide to go by...They need references, and they can be better prepared for class.

A good syllabus is a great help for both the students and teacher: It will give the course a clear structure to follow and will set a standard for the students' expectations regarding content, policies, behavior and goals.

There are a lot of benefits of well-prepared syllabus. It sets the climate for the class; minimizes misunderstandings about course policies, the due dates of assignments, and grading criteria; gives relevant information about the course; and increases students’ excitement about the course.

As was mentioned in the module a syllabus is a contract between you and your students. Nobody likes surprises especially in a college setting. A well thought out syllabus is worth its weight in gold. Students appreciate it because it delineates all of their responsibilities in a clear concise manner. Instructors gain a strong sense of purpose and direction. These are all positive elements of a meaningful learning experience.

Its important to have a well-prepared syllabus so the students will have a complete understanding of whats expected of them and how they are going to evauated.

It is so important because it gives the rules and requirements of your class. It gives important dates so that students cannot later say they did not know a test was on this day or that a project was due on this day. It also lets them know the information/chapters that will be covered so they can review ahead the correct material or if they miss a class review the information they may have missed.

Carolyn,
I agree as well and use the syllabus as the road map and/or GPS for the course.

I think of it as a blueprint for the duration of the class. It details class, attendance, etc. requirements. whenever the students have a question about class requirements, assignments, etc, they can always refer back to this document.

Joel,
A well prepared syllabus really helps keep the class focused and greatly increases the comfort level of the students. They know what is coming and what the expectations are so they can focus on learning.

The syllabus provide the guidelines for the course , the requirements, its helps the student in order to see the objectives for the courses and how they are going to learn the material , and also helps the instructor for the course preparation.

When you have a set of guidelines of what lessons that are going to be taught the student is not confused and it keeps you on track of your teachings.
