It is not easy but feasible.
I think that the learning environment helps the students feel more relaxed with where they are and how they are going to respond to things or if something is too distracting for them and not paying attention.
I believe that the learning environment is very helpful in giving the students a relaxed and organized environment to be successful in.
Refoucs and engage students
The learning environment plays a tremendous role in the education of students. If the students are not comfortable in both their seats as well as the temperature of the room and the quality of the equipment, they will not learn as well.
It is very important to make your students feel comfortable while learning.
Carmencita,
Your attention to detail is what will make your class effective. You are setting the stage for student success because you expect them to have success. This is a win win for everyone.

The learning environment sometimes is a challenge especially when you have challenging students that come to school for the wrong reasons.
I enjoy a time of focus and breathing, removing thoughts that may interfere with why the student is here, anyway. Then we can shift together into a fullfilling day.
The stage should be set before any student enters the room. Instructors taking care to have put in effect an expierience for teaching and learning to go hand in hand. For me it is fundamental.
The learning environment should be the quality of the materials and the instructor’s effectiveness in terms of academic outcomes for students’ success. Students’ should feel safe, respected and valued.
The learning enviornment is critical to student success. If the student feels uncomfortable or views the enviornment as a place he/she would rather not be, their focus will be drawn away from learning. The general appearance of the classroom as well as the quality of the syllabus, referrence material, textbooks (level of literary difficulty), and instructor appearance/attitude/courtesy all facor into an enviornment that is conducive to learning.
A good if not great learning environment has to meet minium standards: well lit room, few or no noise distractions, safe place to learn, comfortable room temp, etc.
It secures confidence level for which students can pursue their educational objectives and goals
Its so important to my students. Many come from backgrounds that are unsable and inconsistent in terms of Life Skills.
I believe its imperative to make the learning environment as effective as possible. For example. If I don't have the correct equipment or supplies I make sure I'm there in class early enough to make the necessary calls to get technical issues repaired and or in the process of being repaired and working.
I usually carry my own markers because that is somethings that we always are lacking. I use the white board alot.
Sometimes I bring a bowl of fruit (If it's not a computer room). I want my students to feel comfortable and eager to learn.
Just my two cents worth. :)
David,
Good points about learning environments and how to make them work for you.

Sherri,
Good examples of how a student can be moved off course when the stakes are high, like when taking a test. Thanks for sharing these with us.

Student retention in terms of continuing to make progress, as in self efficacy, affect is vital because they feel good about risking failure and attempting things. Retention as in staying in a program, affect is important because students, especially non traditional ones, i have found need LTOS of cheerleading and a positive atmosphere.
Im not even sure, depending upon ones earlier experience as a student/learner, if a new teacher can even clearly define a positive learning environment until theyve had at least one semester to understand what it means and looks like. And then it even changes. Mostly because a positive learning environment can msot accurately be evaluated when students have moved on and reflect back. When they say they learned a lot and felt safe to voice their ideas and opinions, then you know youre doing the right thigns to foster a positive LE
