The reasoning behind clear goals and objectives is to keep students on the same page. This is a way to make sure all students are reaching the expectations of the course.

I agree. It is easy to get off the track. Having dialy/weekly goals, as well as, course goals, helps keep everything flowing.

It is important to have clear goals and objectives for your course to ensure that you stay on track and are teaching the students the material that they are required to learn in the class.

I like for the students to know exactly what I expect from them. Goals help for me to be a successful instructor and helps the to be succesful in thier field.

Haviing a solid foundation to begin the course to insure first attention from the students. Insure there is a direction for which this course has meaning and retainability that can keep the students interested. Haviing your objective with a feature that captures all students from beginning to end.

It is much easier to bullseye a target if you know where it is.

Ehab,
I agree with you. The goals and objectives need to be clear and concise. This way they will be understood and worked toward by the students.

Julio,
Good strategy for helping your students to understand what you are trying to do in the class. The better prepared your syllabus is and the more they understand your goals and objectives the greater your connection is going to be with them and the content.

I think the most important thing while developing goals and objective is the use of proper language that the students can understand. making the goals and objectives short, precise and informative play a big part in encourging the students to read these goals and stick to them, having long sentences with complex language could apprehend the student from the course, goals and objective set the standards to which each student should measure his/her progress in the course.

It is very important to have clear objectives and goals, because ultimately it eliminates confusion. As an instructor of multiple courses that have already been in place for many terms, I have gone off of syllabi that have been established for quite some time. As I continue to teach these courses I have noticed that some of the objectives and goals are not clear as there have been numerous times when I have had many students ask me what exactly is meant by something that is listed in the syllabus.

So I feel by having the objectives and goals be clear, concise and to the point it leaves no room for confusion or questions asked numerous times about what something means because it is already clear enough that the students can understand perfectly what is expected of them and know what needs to be acheived, completed and by when and what date.

Shonna,
Right you are about the need for clear goals. When the students see and understand the course requirements and expectations via the goals they can focus on acquiring the needed content and skills knowing they will be able to complete the course with success.

It is important to have a clear picture of the course objective, so you can benefit the most of the course. You have a starting point and the end; between these two point exist micro organization, activities, learning points, tests and so forth. To have anything else but a clear picture, is to decrease drasticly the chanses of a succesful course.

It is important to have clear goals and objectives because because without them the student and the teacher have no idea where the course what the student will learn. It also helps the student continue to stay focused through out the term and possibly look forward to future classes.

It is important to have clear goals and objectives for your course so your students will know what knowledge and skills they will gain from the course.

This way you are not working against yourself. You must know what you want to accomplish before you start, at the end of each day, and ultimately at the end of the course. Our courses are 3 weeks in length, and much must be accomplished during that short period. If there are no goals, or objectives, then there will be no way to measure yours, or your students achievements.

Clear Goals give us a big picture of what is at the end of the tunnel. Something to look forward to. When we have clear Goals we are more apt to achieve our dreams and exceed our own expectations. Objectives are necessary outlines to achieve Goals. Each objective gives us the direction we need and reasons "why" in order for us to achieve our Goals.

Because students cannot be expected to master the objectives unless they are given the opportunity to develop them in the coursework. There is also no misunderstanding on what their expectations are and how they are to achieve them. Your goals and objectives must be consistent and somewhat structured. If you make them up along the way, and change the rules as you go along, you as an instructor appear incompetent and lack confidence in yourself and your students.

I think it’s important to have a clear goal and objective for students because it doesn’t leave theym confuse. I also believe it creates last work for the instructor if the goals and objective are not clear the student look at the instructor as being incompetent.

It is important to have clearly written goals to help students understand where they are going, and well-written objectives help them to understand the steps they are following to get to the desired end result of having the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in their chosen field.

A clear set of goals and objectives will allow the students to access wheather the course fits into his curriculum or wheather it is a general knowledge course.
