Planning out the route of the class

On the first day of class, I always like to give the students an idea of where we wil be going and what they will be doing on a daily basis, it seems to give them a better idea of how they should prepare for each day.

Rob,
Well said and so important to the students. This is how to maintain a good relationship with your students throughout the duration of the course.

Definitely. My general rule of thumb is "no surprises". With no surprises comes less uncertainty on the part of the students. With less uncertainty, the environment is more stable.

When students know exactly what is expected and when, they respond much better.
