Silly-bus?

I used to call it a 'silly-bus', because I didn't see a big value in it. After 9 months of teaching I see that students really need a set of objectives and expectations, or else they flounder (and think you don't know what you're doing)...

Anyone have examples of this in their careers?

I feel the syllabus is also necessary for students who miss a class in order for them to keep up with the rest of the class.

Thats a very good idea I never looked at it that way plus it gives the stutent some responsibility.

A course syllabus is used for all of the things that we are taught here, but in addition, it helps the student track his or her own progress in the course. The students are encouraged to write down on their syllabus, the grade they recieved for each lab and test, while tracking their daily attendance. This cuts down on the number of times they have to ask for a progress report.
