I felt that there were some good insights in ED102.  I especially enjoyed the video clips.   I took away a few new items to use in my 'bag of tricks' for this course.

One of the things I liked was the 'Crisis' teaching tool.   So much of my business is handling last minute crisis situations.   I will definatly be creating a lesson plan around this tidbit for my future classes!

I love to pull out lessons learned from my past jobs in the video industry. I tend to be a little of a 'digital pack rat' in that I keep a lot of the stuff I worked on over the years, including early drafts and versions. This stuff is invaluable when creating a lesson plan or a powerpoint guide. By using real world stuff I can show where things went off track, and more importantly, how the problems got solved!

I've found that students who just came from high school have a sense of structure that is still a bit ingrained in their thinking, and therefore can do well in my classes. I also find that students over 30 are serious about learning and getting a good career. But the in-between years are the hardest. Many students who are 23 or 24 have been away from school for a while. They tend to have the hardest time getting back into a structured environment, and they aren't yet serious about a 'career'. It just takes a bit more maturity than they… >>>

I used to call it a 'silly-bus', because I didn't see a big value in it. After 9 months of teaching I see that students really need a set of objectives and expectations, or else they flounder (and think you don't know what you're doing)... Anyone have examples of this in their careers?
I would say that the whole notion of being a friend vs. being a pal is important. This is my first year teaching, and I've come to realize (the hard way!) that being too close can lead to problems. Basically, the students begin to think of you as a peer, and then they don't respect the rules of the class room because they feel that it doesn't apply to them anymore! Anyone else have this problem?
