First class introductions
I usually introduce the course objectives during the first class and then have students break into groups of two. I give each person in the group 2 mins to talk about what they did during their vacation while the other students listens. Then I have them reciprocate. At this point students are thinking that I will probably test their memory by asking them to state what their group member did for vacation. Instead after 5 minutes I have each group member describe in a nice way the physical attributes, eye color, hair color, clothes and so forth of their group member and have them share eachother's response. It is interesting because the group members become so preoccupied with memorizing what each of them did for their vacation that they forget to pay attention to the physical attributes. It ends up being a fun ice breaker for the first day.
I've experienced this type of intro before and remember liking it. Seems like a great way to get a common base established.
Hi Vincent,
Good way to get a class off to a good start. Students like to be recognized for the experiences they bring to class and how they can benefit from using those experiences to learn.

I take attendance and then i have every one (one at a time ) intoduce them selves. I am in automotive so i ask them to give their name, if they have a job or not, what kind of car they drive and what type of automotive sport or event they are involved or interested in. Since i get a new class every 4 weeks this works best.
I have the benefit of knowing the students before I get them in 3rd quarter. I like to find a new student when they first come into the facility
I try to ask them what they are looking to gain from the program and about theirselves and how they like what they are doing then once I get familiar to some then each day I find another new student and introduce myself and learn about thenm it makes it a little easier for when they get into my class then they already know me and they aren't as nervous. This sounds like a very good activity! I am wondering if you have every run into any problems or touchy moments due to the "physical" descriptions?
I always introduce myself and then see if everyone is in the right class as we have changed rooms where certain courses are thought and they have not always given the student the right class room number
