Limited class time
With limited class time, are there some ways we can streamline the introduction/ overview/ requirements portion of day 1? Or is that a bad idea?
Thanks, Gary. My class is near the end of the curriculum, and the students have been in the same cohort together. They are familiar with our lab clas format, so that helps out a lot.
Hi Evan,
The answer to your question depends on what you want to accomplish the first day. If it is to inform the students only, you can send them the syllabus before the first meeting and then hit the highlights of it and then start the class.
If the purpose is to get the students settled into the class and comfortable with each other then ice breakers will be needed and they take some time. I want to inform the students of expectations, requirements, and policies plus get to know them and they me. I have found that the time invested in this effort is well worth the class time devoted to it.
