First impression
I usually like to make the first class informative but light.. Sets the mood for an excellent term
William,
Not sure what you are saying with your comments. Can you expand on this some more? Thanks for your input on this.

anything that makes them feel comfortable at the start should make the next class easier
Willy,
Great to hear! Sounds like you are well on your way in developing your instructional expertise. Keep up the good progress you are enjoying.

Having covered this material, I am surpised at how much I am doing right during my first day class introduction; despite my not having any formal training in education. Word!
Gary,
It does help them get comfortable your right..
I always like to make my first class with the students comfortble for them. I feel that if I share some about myself and how I got there it helps them to see that I am also a person and not just a scary instructor. I have been told it has helped them to relax in my class and be able to focus on what they are truely there for, and not be afraid of a new class with a new instructor they know nothing about. I believe fully on first impressions and try to make sure I always make a great one.
Shane,
It really does and helps the students get comfortable with you and their class as well.
