Failure of providing course objectives
Can you anyone share some ideas on how an instructor failing to provide a clear and concise syllabus can lead to serious consequences for those students in the class?
The lack of clear objectives, goals & the outline of course material will not only lead to confusion. It gives the student the impression that the instructor is not prepared to teach the class & puts in doubt the authority & expertise of the instructor. It will create on the students a sense of no direction, anxiety & will most likely set them in a careless attitude for the class.
Denise,
So true. Without clear goals and objectives it is tough to know what the end result should be.

Failing to provide course objectives is setting all involved up for failure - both you as the instructor and the students. Without this framework, there is no class structure, which will lead to nothing but problems....
Without a clear definition of objectives the students tend to wander, sleep, or even be slightly destructive. if they cannot stay focused they tend to find other things to do.
Dr. Ositadinma,
A missing or poorly prepared syllabus can lead to student frustration and confusion. They do not goals to follow, aren't sure about the objectives, assignments, policies, requirements and due dates. Each of these items build on each other to the point that the students have no idea about what is going on in the class.
