Teaching is like acting

A teacher is just like an actor , the style of delivery is very important.

Hi Jan,
That is what a "teacher's high" is all about. Think about the lives you are influencing and the legacy you are leaving. This will keep you coming back to school day after day.
Gary

I have had the same comment from my friends and family. I am usually introverted, but when in fron of a class, I know I need to extend myself. When I make the effort the class comes alive and so do I! What a rush!

I agree with Ronald.

Instuctors have the capacity to introduce new concepts and methods in a variety of creative and constructive ways. Teaching is part acting, comedy, sales, and coaching all rolled into one!
Make a personal connection with each of your students, finding out what their interests and goals are from day one, and this will really help break the ice and spark their interest in the class and you as a teacher.

Hi Ronald, I think the part of acting is not trying to be someone else it's about the delivery of the subject matter.

Hello Gary, I think real life experiences in the field I find, is what a lot of my students yearn to learn. Things like kitchen politics and recipe conversions according to the budget of the site they are working at.

Hi Ricardo,
Passion for the career area and experience in doing it does have a real impact on your students. In sharing your previous experience in the field with your students what have found to be the most interesting to them?
Gary

I think that is the key to powerful and engaging
deliveries when one speaks from experience and passion. The part acting plays, is in showing confidence and mastery on the subject matter. The voice can be a very powerful delivery tool when used correctly

no I disagree you should be your self not some actor I believe that studenta can can tell when you are acting.

I find it comes naturally when I talk about a subject I'm passionate about. Students can sense that you are into your subject and enjoy your job. I like to mix it up with humor, serious lecture (I teach surgical information) and hands-on skills. I enjoy watching their eyes greedily taking in everything about the subject I instruct. What a blast!

Teaching for me changed my life. Watching students that struggled and being able to help them, or learning how to understand them molded me into a better parent. The same way we learn to teach at our jobs can be applied with our families at home. I also am thankful for finding this career when I did.

I know I have talked to people close to me and they say I am a totally different person in the class room.

Something seems to happen to me when I walk in to a new class. Its like the biginning of a new football game.

I get butterflys in my stomach and nerviuos. Then when I make the first contact all this goes away and the game is on.

This is what I like about teaching,I feel this same feeling every class. This lets me know I still love what I do for a living!

I hope there never comes a time I dont get excited, this would be a sign to retire. I thank GOD every day for giving me the ability to do what I do!

Not only is the style of delivery important, also to grasp the students' attention with an ice breaker or with humor.

I like to think of it as a good comedy routine or telling a good joke. You keep em riveted just waiting and waiting and then BOOM, heres the punchline.
Good stuff

Yes it is and allows you to use many techniques to communicate with different types of classes

I absolutely agree that teaching is like acting - teachers also have to keep the attention of our students and I use humor as well as personal experiences (not too many, but appropriate ones)to get my message acrross.

When in front of the class acting out to present material helps the students retain the information.

Hi Anatoliy,
Right. Delivery helps to cement the content because the students stay engaged in the learning process and are ready for application at the end of the lecture.
