When life overwhelms!

I'm seeking some advice on how to recover from a rocky start. I was hired to teach a new class for me (and one that includes some new technology) just three short weeks before term. I got sick, got behind, and then life hit with full force! I'm scrambling to keep up, let alone keep ahead. The events happening in my personal life are affecting my ability to plan, prepare, and deliver. What advice can you give me about how to recover in the classroom? In the future, I may be able to use this advice to help a student out as well. Thanks.

If you haven't already, be sure to check with the publisher of your course materials. The publishing company hopefully has course material (activities, sample syllabi, tests, etc), that you might use to supplement your own materials this quarter. It's always nice to not have to "invent the wheel"!

I agree with the feedback from Carol. I was in teaching a new course last quarter and very busy with my other job and family life. I reached out to get help and ideas from an experienced teacher and it made so much difference. I also spent a couple of night getting caught up and I felt much better. Good luck to you!

Hi Carol,
Good examples all of how to grow professionally and accomplish the challenge of being a high quality educator.

1. Do you have any students who have experience in this area, who might like to share in the class while you observe them, take some notes to discuss later with the class, give yourself a little physical break by sitting in the back of the room, etc?

2. Are there other teachers who have taught this class who might be able to help, either on your campus or another campus?

3. Do you have any family members or friends who can help you with "mundane" tasks like typing, correcting objective tests, etc?
