Flexibility of Instruction
As an instructor your primary goal is to continually monitor whether the students have mastered the learning objective for the day's lesson. One way to do this is by asking questions periodically throughout the class instructin to ensure that each objective is covered thoroughly.
Hi Johnnie,
You may want to break the class down into groups when they work on problem solving. Then you can have each member of the group come up and solve a problem or explain how the group came up with a solution. This way everyone contributes without the stronger personalities dominating.

The only problem with question and answer sessions I have is the same people seem to know it. I want to have people come up and solve the problem or talk about what we are working on. Certain students just get it.
Hi Barry,
Good strategy for working with a different type of class of students. The key is the ability to adjust your style to their needs. You are doing that with your approach. Good job.

Sometimes, this is not enough. I have a class thats very shy; not just with me but the other instructors. Its very hard to get a squeek out of the bunch. So I give them an application problem and have them write their answers on card At the end of this session, review the answers given and make general comments then solving the problem.
I agree with being flexible in how you are teaching various content. Students will learn differently and I always do a review before each quiz or exam. This is a good way for the students to get in some study time in class.
Flexibility is very key in teachng. Questtion and answer sessions work wonders, as well as holding discussion groups at the end of class. Through out the course, students also present topics relevant to the material. Having several ways to ensure objectives are met, means flexibility on my part as the instructor and on the part of students.
