I try to implement something different for every type of learning style. That way everyone in the class has and opportunity to learn in the method that helps them most.

It is important to add a variety of instructional delivery methods because your students do not all respond to the same learning styles. Also, with variety, you can help to keep the information interesting and help keep the attention spans in order.

All students learn differently, therefore it is important to diversify delivery. Some students are theoretical, my students are mostly tactile learners. Some excell in the classroom while others would rather work in the lab all day.

Students have different learning styles and varying the method will help reach more students. This can be a little difficult in online classes because the class has a very set structure. At one of the schools where I teach we have online interactive chats with students twice a week. This give a little better opportunity to vary delivery methods than the schools where there is no real time interaction with students.

To be able to reach the different learning types, as a new instructor this is something that i will need to develop,

It is important to offer a variety of instructional delivery methods in class in order to engage the students and enhance their learning.

Is important to offer a variety of instructional delivery methods because people have different styles of learning. You want to ensure that your are reaching your entire audience. Presenting different formats of instruction will ensure that your are trying to accommodate all learning styles and everyone is given the opportunity to learn depending on their learning style.

Offering a variety of instructional methods help students retain information because you are focusing on each student's learning style. For example, some students learn through observation, while others like hands on learning.

Although most adults will possess one primary style of learning, this does not imply that an instructor should focus on just one or the other. To increase the chances of the learners' success in meeting the course objectives, an instructor would have to vary his or her delivery methods.

According to my last learning style inventory, I am a combination auditory and visual, and I lean more heavily toward the auditory. Thank goodness I have had previous instructors who switched styles regularly, otherwise, I may have had many troubles in fully understanding the concepts presented.

Hi Kim,
Humans like variety no matter the setting so by offering that variety to your students you are getting and holding their attention. This is what good teaching is all about.

I have learned that no matter what the age group you are teaching, you only keep their undivided attention for about 10 minutes. So I am always changing it up. Lecture, walk about the room, use the white board, overheads, stop and tell a story or joke, call on students for feedback etc. I also enjoy using games for reinforcement (jepordy) and the like.

Because not everyone thinks, learns or analyzes information the way we (personally) do. If we don't accommodate differing learning styles we run the risk of being ineffective to the majority of a group. For me, consideration begins with "right brain vs. left brain" and expands from there...

Offereing different style of instruction let the students to learn in different ways, and able to ask, participate and be part of the learning environment, as well as gain the professional skills to work with the different situations and with different personal in the same field.

You can meet the needs of many student learners by varying your method of instruction. There are many diferent ways to instruct auditory, kinestetic and visual. Your students will benefit by varying your instruction. This is the best practice. This will also keep your class focused and the change of instruction keeps interest.

This will help to keep the students engaged in the learning experience and address the adult attention span. If we "mix" things up and use creativity in our presentations that will keep their attention. This will also address the various learning styles in the group of students.

I believe that by offering a variety of instructional delivery methods enriches the students learning abilities.

This is a good idea. I think I will try that. The beginning of class is also handouts and passbacks, so I can write the vocabulary that will be covered that day on the board for them to copy and get their notes ready. Then it won't be so obvious some are eating. Thanks.

Hi Barbara,
Here is a strategy that I have used with success. I start the class with some activities to get the students focused on what is going to be covered that night in class. Since this more of a discussion time I let the students eat during this time. They get their snacks out of the way, their energy up and then I have put away all of the food stuffs at around 6:30. At this time I make a major shift in the course where I start a lecture and the formal part of the course begins.

I think as educators, we tend to believe that we have to cover everything. When we try to do it all, we tend not to cover anything in an effective manner.

I am now going to break up my lectures, so they aren't so long even if I have to eliminate some information I usually cover and feel I have to cover a lot of information. I realize it's better they learn more basics without all the details than trying to cram everything in.
