Hi Marita,
Good example. You are right about both needing to be square on some adjustments are going to have to be made.
Gary
Hi Jennifer,
I agree with your statement on first impressions. It is so much easier to build on a positive first impression rather than trying to correct a negative one.
Gary
I like the comparison between the laying of tile and the laying out of the course of instruction. Attention must be paid to every detail or the class will end up way out of square.
I am a firm believer in first impressions. The impression you give to your students directly affects the student's attitude about the class. A good first impression sets the tone about what is to come!
Hi Rena,
Good point and very valid based upon my observations. We need to really nail the first impression so we are moving forward with the class rather than trying to correct something.
Gary
The students see you first time .The way you started your class they think itis goind to be this way and if you want to change for the future it is going to be harder because most than 75% impression of the instructor was done on the first lecture or first class. My oppinion.
Thank you!
Hi David,
Well said. So simple but so important. Building on a good first impression is so much easier than digging out of the hole created by a negative one.
Gary
It's so much easier to make a positive first impression than to later have to overcome a negative first impression.
it is important so the students know first hand that i am here for them, that they will learn how to be a great MA in the future
This sets the bar for the entire program. First impressions last a very long time and students use how and what they think of your initial first impression to gauge the experience they are about to embark on.
You are basically setting the tone for the entire course.
Hi Denise,
Good way to set the stage for student success. By demonstrating professionalism you are showing the students what a person in the field should be like. Also, this gives them insight into the future that they are preparing for.
Gary
You build trust and respect in the beginning. They will know what to expect from you. I always show professionalism and expect professionalism from my students - encourage them by showing professionalism will get you that career that they have been dreaming about.
It sets the tone and shows the way that you will treat the students. They will mirror that back to the instructor.
First impressions mean everything to the student. You want to be well groomed and address your students in a professional manner and this is how they will view you throughout the session.
It shows them that you integrity and that you are a professtional and that you have experience of what you are trying to teach them.
A positive first impression is important because it builds a level of trust between you and your students.
Usually most people decide if they like a person or not within a couple of minutes. You need to show the students that you are a good teacher.
This is somtrue, but not just for the first day
Hi Mabel,
Good point and one we all know but sometimes don't plan for. It is so much easier to build on that good first impression rather than spending time digging out of a hole of negative impressions.
