I try to use my past job experiences such as being a realtor and car salesman in my sales course.
I like to use instructional videos to make course content more relevant for the students. Usually I have a lot of visual learners in my class so I like to find fun videos that the students can relate to and make some correlation.
I try to get to know my students and then incorporate different learning styles.
Leslie,
You are bringing application and relevancy to your students in a variety of ways and this is what being a learning leader is all about.

Christopher,
Connecting the dots between course content and use in their career is so important. The more this can be done the better prepared our students will be and thus a higher success rate. Thank you for these good comments.

I have found that finding current events or examples that can be applied to the course content have been helpful in making the course information relevant. I also try to find examples and case study type information that is specific to the vocation/industry in which my adult learners are becoming a part of. Not only does this give them additional information when they get into the industry after school but it keeps their interest and allows them to enjoy, thus get more out of, the class.
The use of oyher resources beside the textbook. Use of magazine aeticles, the web to obtain additional informtation.
I like to make the information relevant to not only the student's future career but also in a way that they may use that information in other areas of their lives.
At my school the end goal is always licensure and employment in our field. So what we do is always re-inforce to the students that every concept her is important. We are constantly illustrating to the students why this class is important for patient care. Today, I will iluustrate that knowing the Citric Acid Cycle is valuable to understand as persons deficient in oxygen saturation will not make sufficient energy to carry out proper cell division and healing. It's all important and the sooner they can critically think on the concepts the better prepared they will be.
Ruben,
There are some fields that change so fast that I don't know how instructors keep up and yours is one of them. I commend you for your effort because you are making sure that your students receive the latest and most comprehensive information that is available. This is so valuable to them and their future.

Implementing relevant course contect for the course I teach is simple. The course I teach is Pharmacy Technology. Content for the field is ever changing, drugs disease and therapy are constantly adapting. By keeping as current as possible on new drugs, drug recalls, drug therapy and drugs in the news I can relate my content delivery to these changes. This drives home the point that those in this field have to be vigilant in their focus and attention. Since this is practiced daily in my lectures and annecdotes my students are always learning something new, even new since the last class.
Tawana,
Good strategy of bringing in "live" situations into the classroom. Through this effort your students got to see the results of the content they were being asked to learn. This helps them to make the content real in their minds.

while teaching Gynecology this semester I implemented not only lecture but also tactile teaching strategies by passing around the classroom tools used in a GYN office. We also had visual and hands on learning techniques. I also implemented interactive strategie by presenting a live ultrasound with the helpful use of a pregnant student. This kept my adult students engaged and focused with the different aspects of learning
Jeffrey,
We appreciate your kind remarks about the course and how it has been of value to you. I wish you much success as you continue your teaching career.

I took this course 2 weeks before the end of my very first teaching term. I wish I had taken it first. But with that said I see my future students benefiting from much improved class structure and more interesting content and delivery of the information in my lectures. I also see myself enjoying teaching at a new level also.
Thank you
Providing relevant real life experiences in my field will be delieverd to the student's learning experience.
Philip,
This can be a fun time for students as well if you introduce a little competition to the students. These quizzes can be easy and quick to use but will yield great results.

For sure this is one of the most important tolls that we have. Accommodating to the students preferences is how we can have their attention.
yes its true the information that is provided to the student..needs to be relevant and to bring there atention. That it why I used several ilustration, used video for review and prepare matching games that allow the student asimilate the information provided in class.
I'm on board for the quiz! I like to quiz the entire class in between lectures impromptu. Most students I find will strive for the right answer and enjoy the satisfaction when correct.
