Susan:
In the design industry, written/auditory learners tend to outclass the visual/tactile learners in business communication skills and copy writing abilities. It helps some get hired more easily since they typically do not disqualify themselves from the outset with poor grammar and spelling when applying for a job. However, over time, many written/auditory people drift into copy writing, sales and management, and out of the world of hands on design.

Improves one's ability to provide instruction with an effective variety of learning style approaches to maximize success for students with different learning styles.

Hi Charles - Welcome to ED 103! What learning styles did you see in your international students? Best wishes - Susan

I have several students from out of the country that have different learning styles. Learning the different student learning styles has helped me to teach the students in an effective time saving manor.

Hi Daniel - Welcome to ED 103! Just out of curiousity, are those written/auditory learners generally as successful as the vsual/tactile folks? Best wishes! - Susan

It's certainly beneficial to know they learning styles of the students so that content can be presented in the most productive way. I am fortunate to have a class where we demonstrate, then practice, then critique the primary course content, so I have a number of opportunities along the way to vary course content delivery.

As a professional designer, it is common to be surrounded by visual and tactile learners. As a design instructor, it is interesting to encounter written and auditory learners studying to be designers.

It will make things easier on yourself when teaching to them. It will help to keep each student involed and want to learn, and learn it quicker and easier.

Hi John - Welcome to Ed 103! From the description you give of your classes, your delivery techniques are reaching all the learning styles. Well done! Best wishes! Susan

The instructional benefits allow you to adjust your teaching to reach all students. My classes are mostly hands on teaching. Good demonstrations along with good verbal lectures and visual guides such as completed products adresses all students and all learning styles. Reading assigmnments the supoport the laerning for the day should be given the day before. I find it easier to teach students that learn by doing because I am there to see how the percieve what was taught and can correct right there on the spot. All of this is focused on audio, tactil, and visual learning.

Obviously each student learns differently. By understanding this, then it is possible to maximize each student's strengths in the subject they are learning. While this may be difficult to develop lesson plans, it is possible to combine different learning stratagies for each lesson. Using hands on instructions with written instructions followed by verbal instructions is only one example.

Hi Gerald - Thanks for your post! I am glad to hear that teaching to the learning styles is working for you. Best wishes for contnued success! Susan

I find it to be both challenging and beneficial to attempt to identify my students' learning styles. The benefits of identifying these different styles make for a more effective learning environment for all of the students and can assist some of those "very shy" or "very quiet - insecure" students to awaken to multiple learning styles and to be able to identify with them.

The knowledge or understanding of different learning styles sets the environment for student success, building self-esteem, and appeciation for both the instructor and the course material.

In Interpersonal Communications and Public Speaking, I use each of the methods presented in this forum, and find my students to be successful and happy learners.

it is always helpful to identify different learning styles of your students as early in the class as possible. This helps you as an instructor to identify how the student will best absorb the information that you need to give them and it will also help you teach the class more efficiently and effectively.

Hi Lisa - You are doing a great job teaching to the learning styles! Best wishes for continued success in your career! Susan

By understanding how our students learn, we can be more effective teachers. I tend to try to blend as many different techniques as possible with each lesson. I start with writing on the board or using a PowerPoint presentation (visual, written, and auditory) then shift to a group activity so that the students can apply the learned concept (kinesthetic) and then allow the students to present the material to the class. This way I engage the range of styles and encourage the students to frame the lessons in their own preferred style.

Learning styles differ among our students. Knowing the individual styles helps me as a teacher to accommodate them as best as possible. This helps educators become better at what they do because it teaches them to multitask their thoughts and teaching in this melting pot of society.

As and instructor if you have the knowledge of the independent learning styles then it will allow you to understand the best way to educate your students. It will also help with their ability to retain and understand the information that is being presented to them
